For a couple minutes we watched a New Year's party where a singer(?) was introduced supposedly singing his #1 hit Black & Yellow. I guess it was supposed to be Rap(forgot the C in front). Absolute monotone and the lyrics were a simple repeat of the same words. No melody to it, and to top it off he was followed by a different dude just as boring. I swear, the musical repertoire of many of the performers in recent decades is about as wide & worthless as their opinions. Whatever happened to music with a melody and guitar playing that involved more than just twanging the strings to accompany themselves, followed by yelling that's supposed to pass off as singing.

Yes, I'm old...but I'm not dead. And, I have a fair musical background that I left behind years ago. I guess the current crop of singers(?) and yellers did the same.  crazy2

The world is full of good music, and good other stuff too. The bland pap
lowest common denominator things that spew from the faucet of
main stream isn't really all there is.

I like these fellows. I'm sure the second video is an acquired taste, but I
seem to have acquired it...

Some of the best new music performers can be found on YouTube. Specifically on the performer audition competitions. I can’t explain how some of the caterwauling I hear gets promoted.

I agree 100%.   Some of this "new" music is just plain BAD!.   I wonder what those who enjoy said music have been smoking or drinking or is it the simplicity that counts since there might well be no "story" to tell.

here is a rapper who is actually with a good message

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCBNwGHPZ2M

lyrics to his song Brainwashed  https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/tommacdonald/brainwashed.html

Half the country fell asleep but they scream woke
We're distracted by vaccines and TV shows
Politics, celebrity, gossip, popular neat quotes
Black lives, white lives, which lives mean most?
We only dedicate one day to remember our fallen soldiers
The men and women who died young
But if you come out the closet as Caitlyn Jenner
You're a hero and you get a whole pride month
The most dangerous pandemic's propaganda from these clowns
Only mask that's gonna save us is duct tape on they mouths
Don't speak, we don't need to defund police
Need to defund the media who lies through they teeth, like
Big pharma doesn't cure you, dog
'Cause every patient that gets cured is a customer lost
And big oil runs the world, the only wars that get fought
Are with the countries who have natural resources they want

Heard 'em claiming if a white man braids his hair
And likes rap, he's appropriating culture
But if a white man acts too white he's white trash
He's a racist, he's a bigot, he's a monster

Let's just have the conversation
Not every liberal is dumb, not all Republicans are racist
The government wants everybody fighting with their neighbors
'Cause they know that if we get along, we'll probably go against 'em

They can't stop us 'cause we're ready to fight
Try to brainwash us but we won't let freedom die
The whole world's brainwashed
Everybody pick a team, start a riot in the streets
The whole world's brainwashed
It's us against them, it ain't you against me

I liked the second video better, even with the first guy having a proper last name.  Smiley

I got tickets for the first guy in a small nearby venue for the end of the month.

The other guy has played near here, but he's on the road for out west
and Europe for the near future...

I like the way both of them play guitar. The second guy's percussive style is
unusual to me, I wondered if there were a couple of other guitar players
off screen the first time I listened to him...

my boss 10 year younger age 42 loves Korn and Nonpoint headbanger 90's music so obsessed has seen Nonpoint over 150x's NO JOKE, is his jam.   I cannot stand it and pretty much only listen to 80's music and country music for the most part, not that diverse at all.  Boss hates everything 80's including music although he was born in the 80's.

My kid age 22 played me a song that just had the F word in it, as a joke.  No idea how that could pass for musical talent.

Dad growing up in 30's 40's 50's LOVED his POLKA OMMPAHH music and cranked it LOUDLY at home, loved the accordian.  I guess it was for me better than elevator music as I call it at least?  I had to tolerat it living under his roof as one would, but he also did not like my 80's rock music and told me to turn it DOWN often.

I'll be 78 in Feb 23 and I seem to recollect Dad tellin me my music sucked. BUT on the other paw I agree with John. Some of what appears to be passed off as "music" leaves lots to be desired to these old ears. Older and crankier might begin to splain!  2funny RIDE SAFE.

I can remember playing "Why don't we do it in the road" on the Beatles double white album, and my mom yelling up the stairs... what in the world is that, and turn it off right now!!!!!!   Grin

I didn't care for that (and many of the songs) on those albums.

I remember thinking.. the Beatles have become so popular, they just put out a bunch of garbage because they know anything they produce will sell.
