To get down to the air box on my Wing. Having that airbag is a b!§¥£. I didn’t throw any tools or swear but I wanted to a couple of times. Last I heard dealers get $450.00 for changing an air filter. So not a bad day for me even though it is still apart. With it tore down this far, thinking about some headlight upgrades, I have a speed healer to install, digital voltmeter with USB ports coming tomorrow, lots of cleaning to do.

At least it wasn’t as dirty as I feared.

That was some of the best $260 I've spent on a bike - place charged me that to replace the air filter and replace the left instrument cluster (With the turn signal switch)...

And your old filter looks to have been in much nicer condition than mine was!

...hope getting it all back together goes smoothly!

I have to peel off a bunch of stuff to get to mine (it's where yours is) but I
don't have to deal with an airbag. I never thought of that. I've done all
the work and modifications on my 1800 myself, but if it had an airbag
Ida probably have set it off in my face or something...

My car's seats are full of air bags and now that the driver's seat is
showing wear I'm stuck with more than $1000 to get it recovered.

I changed my wing's air filter in June of 2019 (so it says in the maintenance log) and I need to change it again.  I have been putting about 40,000 plus miles on each filter.

Use Fred's discs.   Just reviewed the process yesterday to refresh my memory.  It's a bit of work but I was so very pleased when I did if the first time and everything worked when I got done.   cooldude

Your filter was what prompted me to buy a filter back in the fall, was just waiting on the cold weather!

I thought having the airbag was kool and it couldn’t hurt, I believe I would pass on the airbag in the future. Lots of warnings in the owners manual about not disconnecting anything connected to the airbag.

I have Fred’s disc’s and I watched them this morning but it was not an airbag model so some significant differences.

I just swapped out the air filter in my 2018 Wing w/just over 18k on her.

Wasn't overly dirty, but there was a acorn in there, so some furball critter visit was had.

I bought Fred's vids, glad I did.

The engineering on the Wing is amazing, but that air filter change is a lot of work.

Anyone that thinks swapping out a Valk air filter is hard work, needs to rethink that. Roll Eyes

I'm doing a coolant and brake fluid swap next.

looks brand new. the 12k miles change out is worst case construction sites, dirt roads, etc. miles to change out is a poor gauge to use, air restriction is the correct way to determine change out. 12k like the 3k oil change pushed on vehicles is a lie to sell more products and keep their service depts active.
your air filter will flow the same as a brand new one out of the box. changing too soon actually allows more dirt in over the lifetime of a filter

Servicing too frequently prevents the air filter from ever reaching its peak efficiency. In addition, the risk of engine damage increases every time the air filter is removed from the air cleaner housing.
Air filter service life should be determined by measuring airflow restriction – not by visual inspection alone.
