Dang, my kick stand spring bolt just broke today, the remainder of the bolt is still in the bracket.  Hope a little break free and a pick or drill will spin the remainder out....ugh!  I had a Peets Coffee attack today and used a red bungee cord to hold the kick stand up while I made the run.....ya gotta love these bikes....any excuse will do to ride.

Rio,

I carried a spare spring and bolt with me last summer to Inzane and back. I was wondering what I woud do if it broke off flush and I needed an easy out or something. I guess you still can't beat carrying a bungy cord and or tie wire.............. Wink

The bolt has a nut on the backside of the bracket. I had to put bike on my jack and loosen the two main bolts so I could get to the nut and get it off. then the bolt will come out very easy. I built a new bolt and used a spring from the hardware store, that was two years ago. I have a new stock bolt and spring in my saddlebag if  my homemade one ever gets broken.

Just ordered a new bolt, spring and nut for my 98 Tourer. Two or three years ago stopping for gas the side-stand went down easily at a gas stop. The bolt was bent but not broken completely. Tied the stand up for my return home. Looking at the bolt I discovered I had been bumping it when I put the bike lift under the bike. That caused the bend and crack in the bolt, didn't lose the spring. Been running one I made since then until I read this thread. I'll carry my old one for a back-up.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Take it off and go to the hardware and get you a different one. I got a phillips head type screw. I screwed in in far enough below the kick stand that it would have to take a big hit to break it. Now I have 2 spares for $1.

Al, any tips for a California rider headed to the arctic circle north of Fairbanks. We plan to drive over to Anchorage then up to Fairbanks and make the trip up to the arctic circle sign, snap a pic and come back home.
