I did not know any of this.  I have watched, on YouTube, my favorite Marshall Tucker Band song many, many times (linked below).  I found out, after watching them many times, they were from Spartanburg.

Marshall Tucker never played a lick of music in the Marshall Tucker Band. In fact, he wasn’t known for performing at all. He was in the music business though. For almost 50 years, Marshall Tucker was one of South Carolina’s most trusted piano tuners. He tuned pianos for some of the most famous piano players ever, including Lawrence Welk and Liberace. But through a twist of fate, his name became known worldwide, and synonymous with Southern Rock.

The rest of the story is at the link below.  My favorite Marshall Tucker Song, as at the second link.

I didn't find out until afterwards that they played in Billings during Inzane.

The closest I've come to see them play.

On Sept. 3, 1977 Marshall Tucker Band took the stage at Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ
in front of 150, 000 screaming fans. A legendary performance, playing in front of the Grateful Dead, captured on multi-track recorders and released for the first time. Every fan there had the same reaction, 'Glad I was there!'   Jethro Tull also played I think

I was there, it was the 2nd time I had heard them    Thanks for the post and memory jog

I remember hearing about that. There was a big divide in our area over rock, disco and southern rock. I was 12 and still figuring it all out. Music was changing almost daily and AM radio still was pumping out some great music with great (iconic in oir area) DJ’s, especially Don Imus and Scott Muni and others whose names have slipped away.  Having a handheld AM/FM transistor radio running on a 9v battery was a big deal back then, at least to me.

For many years Marshall Tucker Band, 38 Special (they were a yearly attraction for quite some time) and other bands would play at (what’s now known as Six Flags Great Adventure) Great Adventure in Jackson,NJ, concerts were included in the regular admission price.

My first year of college, my speed was looking at the little chord pictures
in song books and trying to play them. There was a fellow there that hung
out with us, he was a good guitar player with a good guitar. He liked to
play Marshall Tucker songs... and I can remember him playing that one.

Some number of years later another guy I know from my home town was
their piano player, Ronnie Godfrey...

One more turn should do it!

Kent, Ohio

The Marshal Tucker Band came to Kent, Ohio, I think it was '76 or '77. They played in the Memorial Gymnasium on the KSU campus. What a great show and wonderful memories. As I remember about a 3+ hour show. A bargain at $2.50 a ticket.
