I've noticed that the back of the transmission is covered with oily dirt.  Looks like it's coming from the front of the boot covering the universal joint.  The boot also covers the transmission output shaft housing (bearing and seal)
It looks like it's held on by 3 bolts.
To change out the seal is it a matter of removing the swing arm, loosening the 3 bolts and give it a couple love taps to remove the bearing/seal housing so I can replace the seal?
Hopefully somebody has already done this and can save me from having another FUBAR project.
I just passed the 185,000 mile mark and am now dealing with longevity maintenance issues.
Thanks for any inputs.

Not 100% sure but I don’t think you need to remove the swingarm. I think you can just pull the entire drivetrain including the u-joint and there should be enough room to do what you need to do.

This is just a Ujoint service how-to with pictures, but it may be helpful.

Click each pic to blow it up. (see step five)

Thanks for the input guys!
Chris,  does the transmission output shaft bearing/seal housing slip off relatively easy after the 3 bolts are removed and everything else is out of the way?

1) I am assuming the output shaft bearing is press fit into the little housing (via the outer race) that is bolted (3 bolts) onto the back of the transmission.
2) I am then also assuming that the output bearing inner race is a slip fit over the output shaft.

Once the housing is out I can knockout the old seal, press fit a new one in and reinstall the housing with minimal effort using a new O-ring to seal the housing to the back of the transmission case.
Are these 2 assumptions correct?   Clanky

I’ve never done it on a Valkyrie but I believe it’s going to be as you surmise.

Thanks Chris for your response.  I've taken a closer look at the Honda Service Manual and the output shaft seal sits in what they call a "bearing holder" housing.  The "bearing holder" function of the housing is just an axial pinch on the outer race of the the output shaft bearing when you tighten the 3 bolts that attach the "bearing holder" to the transmission rear case.
I'll try getting the "bearing holder" housing off without removing the swing arm.

Thanks guys for your inputs!  Clanky

Just and FYI.
One does have to remove the swing arm as there is not enough clearance to get the output shaft bearing seal housing out.
Once the swing arm is off it was rather easy to get the transmission output shaft bearing housing off.
Although the pivot caps are very cheap plastic.  I broke off 2 of the 8 tangs on one of the caps.
