The service manual says to use special tool to renmove the swing arm nuts. Can a general, non special tool get the job done.

question? why are u removing the swing arm? the bearings are overkill, barely move and don't need maintenance.
yes u need the tool to re-torque the nuts.

I bought some Honda tools ten or twelve years ago, and I've had my swingarm off before.
With the right tools, it is a breeze to take the swingarm off. I assume those tools
Baldo posted are appropriate, and the price sure is right  cooldude

The Honda tool specified in the manual has an offset lever arm, that's what
I have...

I made one and my old friend Grumpy welded it together for me. Only used it once when rebuilding a Valk  with fire damage.

I made one couple weeks ago from a 30mm 1/2 in drive socket and some cutting with angle grinder.

I've purchased a lot of specialty Honda mechanic's tools from eBay over the years. Look in the Service Manual for what you need, set up a search and eventually they'll come up.

Recently I moved my stash of tools from my old place to the new one. In just motorcycle tools alone: Dayum that was a heavy load...

Did the same thing to remove the swing arm on an '89 Honda HAwk GT for a friend...
Old crappy socket was finally useful for something.
