1999 valkyrie, has a rebuilt alternator from MARS.  When I went to put in a new battery the shop gave me one with reverse terminals. There was a spark immediately so of course I didn't hook it up. My fault I should have checked the terminals that they sold me. I don't think it's charging now I don't hear that whering sound of a alternator charging and with my vom on it the voltage is not increasing at the battery when I start it. Is there something that may have blue to save the alternator like a fuse or something or might I have a problem in the alternator itself. My phone number is 507-251-4338. It's better to text or leave information so I add you to my contacts or post to reply here I'm kind of new at this so hopefully I can see it. Thanks

There is a 30 amp main fuse at the starter relay switch behind the right side cover. If it starts by the switch, I would guess that's not blown. The alternator has it's own 55 amp fuse, so perhaps that took the hit from the polarity oops.

If the 55 amp fuse is popped, it's Honda part number 98200-65500

You can often find the right one at auto parts stores; they were also used on some Honda cars and possibly other makes as well. Googling the part number I posted will show you what it looks like.

+1 on the 55A fusible link. It is the fuse for the alternator. The spare should be tucked in a thin slot on the side of the lid

Kind of an older post, but any follow up of what you found wrong?

Fuses all OK, I would check that exciter wire to the alternator, might be burnt (12v thin live wire to the alternator).

I apoligize,  I have been trying to reply from my phone and had touble with the forum.  Thank you all for your advise. Yes it was the main fuse and because of my trouble logging in I didnt see the advise on the location of the spare fuse so i ordered one from amazon and when I  put everything back together there was the spare in the cover.  The trike sold and is now in Wickenberg AZ , so if any of you know of a reliable mechanic for the valkyrie i would appreciate passing the info on to the new owner.  Thanks again.
