Well, thank goodness I am the stage in life where I don't owe anybody anything, it's just the daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly living bills that still have to get paid and some more retirement savings needs to happen still.  So, because of this, I am still at the mercy of the paycheck, and therefore the rule of the company from which that paycheck comes.  So, because they make the rules, I will be commuting back into the office two days a week.  This is what we were doing before the pandemic, so it's back to normal, I guess.

We were working towards full time teleworking before covid hit.  When I started here 18 years ago it was 5 days in the office.  Over the years it worked its way to the 3 days home/2 days in and would have eventually gotten to 4 days at home.  Covid made it happen faster.  Too fast I guess.

When we first started working from home, we were "informed" that we couldn't write off the home office on our taxes because the company did provide a workspace and that it was our "choice" to stay home.  Well the last 3 years, almost to the day, wasn't a choice at first so folks were probably writing off the home office so the company couldn't get all of its tax credits for providing office space.  It's for this reason that I believe we are being called back in.  Our productivity never faltered and most people put in an extra hour or two working from home daily.  It has to be a money thing.

Like I said, we were working towards full time teleworking anyway as the goal, but it always come down to money.  They have the buildings and the equipment they are paying for anyway, so there had to be a further loss somewhere for them to make this decision.  I wonder if the company providing food services had something to say.  THEY are definitely taking a huge hit with most people working from home.  Maybe they threatened to leave and to keep them...........  Who knows?

Back to buying gas every week.  I was down to once a month in my car.  Oh, and showering twice a week now, UGH!  LOL!!!   2funny

I wouldn't complain about having to go to work only two days a week. That's pretty cushy. Most people don't have it that good. Do you work for the government?

The general rule is only the self-employed, gig workers, and independent contractors can write off a home office.

Productivity overall is way down with people working at home. That's to be expected since it's just human nature. This is the reason employers (e.g. Elon Musk) are calling their people back to work.

Besides, on the bright side, having to commute to work gives you an excuse to ride!

do NOT even get me started on work at home vs. office.  My 2 co-workers age 23 and 28 think they are all high and mighty making EVERY excuse in the book to call in sick on scheduled days in office and yet our boss allows them to work at home 3-4 vs. 1-2 days per week while supposedly sick.  I have about 12 instances past few months of both of them doing this BS.  One even texted us at 9 p.m. Wednesday at home saying he is sick and will just work from home both Thursday and Friday.  How the F do you know you will be sick BOTH days, especially Friday?  The other just last week came up with lame excuse his girlfriend is sick and he might need to drive her to ER so he is staying home working just in case he is needed to drive her to ER.  UNREAL!    Just puts tad bit more work on ME being in the office and not playing that BS game think they are in the right to be able to abuse the system since both first full time office jobs, young priviledged punks.   They even went so far as to say if they EVER had to work 5 full days in the office, they would be leaving soon.  Oh well, let them both go.  Brought it up to the boss age 42 and he knows is BS, but refuses to do a darn thing about it since he himself is similar saying if he ever had to drive into the office 5 days per week, he would go elsewhere.  Work ethics of everyone nowadays is a fricking joke.

so you have say 25 to 40 percent tops back into the office is all, yet you pay the heating and lighting bills for entire corporation, makes no sense at all.  Depending on office environment/job duties, where some jobs must be done in the office, needing say a printer/scanner/filing system,  there should be alternative days off and mandatory scheduled IN OFFICE work days.  Unfortunately,  too many companies like mine involving all mgrs. and HR do NOT enforce it and about 1/2 or more of the workers make excuses to stay home more than say 1 to 2 days per week.
