The idea of painting my Valk won't leave me alone. It's a Red & White.....and I like it (sorta), but after owning it for going on two years now, it's not really growing on me like I'd hoped it would. For those that bit the bullet, I've got a couple of questions for you............. Why did you paint your Valk? What color was it before you painted it? And what does it look lilke now? Before and especially after pics would be nice.........let's seem 'em.

Painted mine out of necessity... apparently it was wrecked and no one told me before I bought it. Was black... now it's black with metal flake top coat (neat effect). Don't have pictures though... mostly cause I painted it myself and I'm a rookie at painting. It has a few flaws... biggest one is where the clutch tube hanging off the handlebar (missing clip) sat against the tank while I was rewiring the back end... the rubber hose reacted with the paint and screwed up the finish. So... my advice... Be mindful of those rubber hoses when putting it back together... The rear lights cable has a plug/receptacle that doesn't fit through the fender and will have to be cut... Hire a professional...

I'm also toying with the idea of aiting my 97 red and white standard. Naturally, what I want is going to be waaaaaay out of my price range..... but I'm thinking of going with a saphire blue, metal flake or diamond dust..... I want it to sparkle. LOL

mine was green and cream tourer. now its red and black. i painted it twice the first time is was cause i got hit once and knocked down twice, the second time i painted it was cause i had gotten an interstate tank and i wanted a differant paint scheme but the same colulors. the first paint scheme was 2 black stripes like the 70s dogdes had now its the 1 stripe like the chevelle here is the front with the new driving lights here is a back shot, i had the kury spots on her then but had bad luck keeping the water out of them so i changed them to the cobra spots here is the detail of the tank, the black has a multi color metalflake in it

For those that bit the bullet, I've got a couple of questions for you............. Why did you paint your Valk? Wanted something unique and (dare I say it???) beautiful. My goal was a project bike that was as aesthetic as possible without violating the dictum "form FOLLOWS function". What color was it before you painted it? Black. Bought new in Jan '04, no choice. And what does it look lilke now? See pic. Before and especially after pics would be nice.........let's seem 'em. I can get you to a real artist here in San Antonio if your in this area....

Our '99 Standard began life as a yellow and cream. We love the motorbike, but just did not prefer the color scheme. We lived with it for three years, but from the start wanted something other than this: We wanted nothing wild, as we feel the lines of the Valk call for something understated. We also prefer that the bike paint scheme look relatively like a factory scheme. We decided on a scheme patterned after one of the more rare factory schemes (can't now remember how many blue and whites were sold, but relatively few). This is stormy blue mica (used on current Mazdas) and pure white, overshot with pearl blue: We consider the Valk among the best looking cruisers extant. For us, the paint enhanced the looks of our bike further. We have spent a bit of $$$ on simple bolt on bling for this bike, but the paint job is easily the best money we have spent. Two years later, we would do it again without reservation. Our $.02. We trudge on.

Started out as the maroon & cream tourer. 1st trip to Sturgis 02 it was...ah...placed...gulp!...in a trailer...sigh...with a wing and Softail. Softail fell over around chicago and damaged my front fender, saddle bag, and shield. The price of all new parts were more then a new paint job. Used the ins money and had it painted. Its showing some wear with scratches and has some cancer showing on the front fender. Next time its going to a body shop and have it done for half the cost. Got tired of 'oh watch the paint' feeling years ago. Painted the batwing myself.

I have the same feelings of wanting to paint as the realization that the bike will be with me the rest of my life. I considered selling it for the Kawasaki Connie 14, just got a bunch of tire kickers offering me less money than the accessories I've dumped into it. So with that being said, I might as well make this bike mine. I am currently black. I would like to follow the original Valkyrie paint scheem, with the horns. I would like to do Black & Tan with red pinstipe between the two colors. Someone on the board used those colors and it sure is one smart looking Valkyrie Of course I couldn't copy him and it's just a dream. I think it was Nico's bike, "El-Diablo". Very sharp

I had my fairing painted by the awesome painter who did this bike: didn't work out so well for me, though... He said he repaint, but I haven't followed up on it yet... Make sure you really want to go through the process, especially if you already have the best color ... As far as painting ideas go - those Valkyries with the stripe down the middle (like the two above in this thread) sure do look nice... -Mike

I painted it 'cause I had a vision (not drug induced ;>) ) of what I wanted to do with it to make it my own. It was an '03 Standard which only came in black, the fastest color. I didn't think adding a little Yellow Chrome Kandy paint would be too detrimental to it's speed, so off we went to the Custom paint shop. Day one at the Honda dealer where I purchased it.... and now as MAGNUM,,, 1520 SixPack,,,the Valkyrie Super Bumble Bee

Keep 'em coming. These are great. I'm really liking the flames and the stock looking stripe down the middle.
If I do paint her (which is lookin' more and more likely), I'm leaning towards a darker color, perhaps with some sort of flames.

Did an archive search and found these photo's. This is the bike I was talking about earlier in this thread...What a stunning transformation, really brought that old Valk back to life! Way to go Nico It's clean, classic. Great color combo.

Nice looking seats! I hadn't noticed your pipes before... I guess those chrome tips are hooked onto your piggies? Are they the ones from New Zealand? Piggies cut any? -Mike

I bought mine is 99. It was a 97 "new" Black standard. I decided after thinking about it for a while in 04 to do a paint job and add everything that I wanted to add to it. So the bike came apart. The "tins" came off and went to the painter. The scheme I decided was similar to one I had seen on a Viking custom Valk. The Blue is 04 Pontiac GTO Impulse Blue the Silver is what the painter uses. While that was being done. I had most of the Aluminum pieces polished. More Chrome was added, as well as almost every part Kury-Aukn makes for the Valk. All the hoses and electrical harness have been braided. My efforts payed off later that year when I put it in the bike show at Honda homecoming. I won my class of "mild Custom" and also "Best of Show". I have done a few more things to it since then but you get the idea........ Before.. .jpg) After.. After adding Factory Bags..

Chillerman is right, the pipes ARE Mark T's Organ Pipes. And Mike, the seats are Russell Day-Long on which I had them add the yellow racing stripe to meet up with the painted stripe coming down the top of the tank. Glad you like them.

Stay tuned, this is what my 97 looks like now but I am waiting for my painter to get back to me with ideas after he talks to his airbrush guy, possibly a dragon theme if I can do it with subtleness
