Reminds me of a trip my Rita and I took out west. It included Yellowstone, Tetons, etc. At one point when headed east in Wyoming, Rita was driving and as we left a small town she noticed a speed limit sign posting 80 mph. Her reaction..."80, how nice." Then moved to the left lane and started running 10 over. I suggested she slow down a bit so she did...only running near 88. I tightened my seatbelt a bit more.  Wink

Way back in the early 80's, I got stopped here in Huntsville, TX for 147 in a 55. Lucky for me, the police officer was a younger guy that was a gear head too, and was more interested in what I had under the hood of my Camaro. He didn't even give me a ticket.

I was leading a GM ride trip across TX, from Arlington to San Diego.  We were probably running about 10 MPH over the posted limit when the last vehicle in the group got on the radio and said he was being pulled over.  I told him we would pull off at the next exit and wait for him on the ramp.  About 5 minutes later he said he was on his way.  I asked if he got a ticket, he replied no, the officer wanted to know why they quit making the Camaro and if it would be back in production.  He said since they quit making it, they didn't have cars that could keep up with/catch the speeders.  We have been pulled over several times so the officers could check out the new models.

200 mph , wow, did not think any cars could go that fast, only a few elite cycles.

am really surprised all mfgs. have NOT figured out how to limit all vehicles from going over 100 mph with all the other electronic gadgets installed on vehicles nowadays to supposedly 'help' drive the car better?

I guess am getting old or just slower, but nowadays I see not one reason in the USA to drive ever over 90 mph anywhere.

fastest I ever went was around 115 mph (maybe 110) with dad's old 1976 caprice classic 305 V8.  On cycle around 105 mph, maybe 110 mph,  both in the late 80's when young and bulletproof.  And only once on both.  Nowadays I am lucky to ever get over say 83 mph even on the interstates.

There is 1 road in Texas that has an 85 MPH speed limit - given that EVERYONE speeds a little, I wouldn't be surprised if there are people are going 90-95 MPH.

We just went across Texas, not on a Valk, on I-10.   Yes, we saw several folks going way above the 5-10 mph grace speed. Not sure they were going at 200 mph speeds by were going at least 90 plus.   Most of the posted speed was 75 mph.   Yeah, those really moving were driving vehicles were setup to run.  Didn't see many LEO type folks.  Us, were poking along at 70 mph in our RV van.

With the electronic controls on vehicles today, manufacturers do have the ability to and do set a maximum speed cal.  They used to shut off fuel if the max speed was exceeded, but with the implementation of throttle by wire, they now just close the throttle blade until the vehicle speed drops below the max cal value.

per GM my 2022 Corvette does 205 mph...my 2003 Z06 would do 171 in fifth-6th gear is an overdrive and it would only pull 161mph.... I am certain my Attic Rat modded Viking header Valk will do 150 and a tad more if geared for it

"Harleys, just do the best you can"...

Doing my usual 20 over the limit I was getting in the neighborhood of 16 MPG...

Felt funny slowing down to 95 to pass a cop and him not batting an eye...

From a technical perspective this is a thing that's long been possible, and some do it...

However, if Brand "A" puts a governor at 100MPH on their vehicles, and Brand "B" does not, which one do you think more folks will end up buying?

...the power of a free market, and I love it.

(And when they do put a governor on the vehicle, doesn't take long for folks to figure out how to circumvent it, package the tool/chip to defeat it and make money selling the fix... Again... power of the market... Smiley )
