Hey Guys. I'm not on Facebook or Instagram. This Board is my primary social media presence. In that light, hope you don't mind me sharing some vacation pics.

During the last two weeks in April we took a trip to Hawaii for 10 nights. On the way home we stopped in San Francisco for 3 nights to visit my son and his girlfriend. Links to a few pics are below. Enjoy!

Pearl Harbor National Memorial
I'm a WWII buff, particularly submarine warfare in the Pacific. We really enjoyed the trip to this National Memorial. Very moving.

Waikiki Beach
We stayed on Waikiki Beach for 2 nights. This picture was taken at a hotel with a great Mai Tai bar. We enjoyed many on the trip.

Poipo Beach Kauai
We stayed four nights at the Sheraton on Poipo Beach. Beautiful sunsets from this Beach.

Helicopter Tour of Kauai
The topography of Kauai is dramatic. We took a Helicopter Tour to get a good look at it.

Kauai Luau
We went to a Luau on Kauai. It was dinner and a show, complete with Hula and Fire Dancing, just like the movies. Was fun.

Maui

We stayed four nights at the Westin on the west coast of Maui. The view from the room was beautiful. We could see the island of Molokai from the room. Also good sunsets because we were on the west coast.

Haleakala National Park

We rented a car for a couple days in Maui to do some exploring. The highlight was the 37 mile drive up from sea level to the summit of the Haleakala volcano at 10,023 feet. It's one of the greatest elevation gains in the shortest distance in the world. Lots of switch backs some without with guard rails. It was worth it. It looked like the surface of Mars up there.

Point Reyes California

Took a drive to Point Reyes California to look at the steep cliffs and a light house perched on the side. Unfortunately it was mostly fogged in, but was able to get a few pictures.

Did you happen to grab a bite to eat at Brennecke's while at Poipu?

Thanks all for your comments and well wishes!  cooldude

With elder care duties, all four of our parents passing between 2017 and 2020, and COVID, we hadn't been on a plane or taken a trip outside of New England since August of 2017. This was a Bucket List trip. We're glad that we were finally able to do it.

@Bassman: We didn't rent a car in Kauai. So we were limited to going to restaurants within walking distance unless we took a cab or ride share, which we didn't other than back and forth from the airport. Brennecke's was really not within walking distance, especially with a sunset at 7:00 PM. Hawaii stays on Standard Time. Thus we didn't go to Brennecke's.

Great pics and trip! Being ex-Navy, Pearl Harbor is a bucket list for me. Cool

The visit to the National Memorial at Pearl Harbor was great! Between the Museum, the USS Arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri Battleship, one could spend 4 to 6 hours there. Time at the USS Arizona Memorial visit allows just 15 minutes at the actual Memorial, plus the time it takes to take a short boat ride to the Memorial.

We were on a tour schedule and we able to look at the Museum highlights and visit the Memorial.  We did not tour the USS Missouri. We've both toured the USS Massachusetts Battleship in Fall River before, so we didn't do the Missouri tour. The Museum provided information of the state of world affairs at that time a the genesis of WWII. It was very interesting. We enjoyed it.  Wink
