The ferry is 6 miles from my home and is a valuable asset for many locals as a less hectic country drive to get to Lexington, and Nicholasville from the south, Richmond and Madison County. Not having to run the gauntlet of I75 is great. The ferry has been closed for almost all winter and up to now and I wasn’t sure why, now I know.

The tug has been being refurbished and I can attest to the need for this to happen. This tug is strapped to the barge that hold the vehicles usually 3-4 at a time as they traverse the Kentucky river. Although not shown in the picture the propulsion system is by paddlewheel.
