So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: May 06, 2023, 06:52:37 AM »

I've been up for quite a while already, I'm an early riser.
So; as my normal routine, I turn on the TV to catch the news and weather.

Every damn station seems to be covering this dog and pony show.
Sorry, buy I am not interested and truly don't understand why the media thinks most Americans care.
I've got nothing against the Royals and do respect the British Armed Forces but, for Pete's sake, give me a break!

Edited:  Yeah, I'm whining.............................

We got up at the normal time and watched the last two hours of so.   I am not in favor or a Monarchy but, it is part of British History and part of their form of government.

So, we watched.  I did like Queen Elizabeth in her 70 year reign.  Don't know about King Charles.  He seems to lean way left and might try and do more in that respect.  The Queen was much more "neutral" in her public stance but was still part of the government.

However, it is part of history and worthy of note.  And, there is nothing like it elsewhere.

The crowds seemed enthusiastic and supportive.  Less than 10% appeared to have their phones in the air as the new King traveled from the coronation.   I thought that was a little telling.

Ans yes, there is a lot history between the Brits and the US.  Most of it good.

No argument with anything posted above.   Some folks are obviously interested, others not so much.   I may be in the minority.

Well, doing laundry and having coffee would be just about as entertaining but at least you're not  wasting time.   2funny

I dont quess I understand why the British people still think so highly of the royal family.  I have never heard a British person speak badly of them.   Do the have any political function?   Any law decisions?   Any military decisions?  What is their purpose ?   If I lived there I would be wondering why the taxes I paid were going to Queen Elizabeths 2020 salary of $97.2 million.....prince Charles 27 million....etc for the rest of the royal family.

That is probably the key to their popularity.  They don't do much other than live their pampered royal lives.  Apparently it's unifying for the populace, so there's that.  At least they're not wrecking their country.

I don't know if Queen Elizabeth started the tradition, but she has certainly stressed that the purpose of the Royal Family is to serve the Country, not the Country serve them. To  that end, Charles, William and Harry (and numerous others related) have served in the UK Armed Forces in various capacities. Harry even spent time in the Middle East until someone broke OPSEC and leaked that he was there with his platoon. William served as a rescue helo pilot (RAF/or RN), as well as their numerous public appearances for the various members of the Royal Family.

Tradition and history are part of what makes great countries and unifies their people.

You'll notice that a segment of our society spends all of their waking hours trying to destroy all our traditions, history and unity.

I'm not big on pomp and circumstance either, but I do enjoy military marching bands playing John Phillip Sousa.  Smiley

I don't know much about Charles, but I always found it telling that Elizabeth decided it was better to stay Queen (until her dying day) rather than hand over the reigns to Charles.

Excellent analysis and summary.   I had not thought that way about Queen Elizabeth but I believe your analysis is correct regarding her and Charles.

I wonder if it (the video linked above) has more to do with the person be "Crowned"  rather than the Royals.

I don't know how they, the Scotts, viewed Queen Elizabeth but, if rumors are correct, she stayed with us as long as possible to minimize the time the Charles would be King.

That was enough hoopla for me.

Not that I follow this stuff but, my wife tells me she got promoted from Queen Consort (the person that sleeps with the King) to Queen.   Doesn't really matter to me, Charlie is a Leftist Tree Hugger from what I understand so, he can stay in GB for all I care.  Stay safe and watch yer six.  Wink

Rode the "Rat" bike a little over 400 miles yesterday.   Took the long route to go see my grandson.   At eight months old, I put him in the saddle with the engine running and the first thing he did was reach for the throttle and rolled it to redline.   That boy has a future I'm telling ya.  Wink

It would have been more funny if you could have put Charles face in there! Funny none the less, Rams reply was right in line with your observation and funny too.
