Ok,,,, this may seem odd but......
Yes everyday you drive to and from wherever, and you are in your vehicle or on your bike, your license plate is there for viewing. It's real and there for all to see.
Now, I post a picture of me on the road to Slimland, WH. I post it on this board or another board or on Facebook whatever.
This website is free as is the Goldwing website and the ST website I frequent. Anyone can join and be authorized and it's hard to make sure they are not fake. Same with Facebook and MeWe.
You post a pic of your nice car or your nice bike on the road from Point "A" to Point "B" and you say where Point "A" and Point "B" are. Your plate is from SC and your location is Arkansas. If I have your plate number I can find out, for a price, who is the registered owner and the address of said owner who I know is not at home at the time of the photo. Therefore the home might well be empty and ripe for ........
It matters not, today, if you have security systems or ...... they only stop the random people who just do it. But, if you seem like a person with some funding and some history and some "goods", takes nothing as I said to find our the address to which the license plate is registered. Might not be your home address but nine times out of ten it is.
My take on the reason. It is one of the reasons, I have stopped posting my rides, as I take them, on Facebook where I have some friends that also ride. I post them here because, in the main, I think most of the people on this site are reasonable and trustworthy (few exceptions as always in the case).
I have not posted them on the other two forums I frequent.
Again, just my two cents. I have not slept at a Holiday Inn Express for several weeks now.
Ok traveling sure or maybe however someone else or the rest of the family could still be at home. The house for the interested person looking does not know if it is empty.
The one that sparked the question was a stock Mini Cooper, surely not in the massive wanted category. And let’s say you have one of 12 surviving 68 Hemi Darts, you go to a show, the plate is there for anyone to see and they can find where this car lives. I guess it comes down to the many posts I see with the covered plate, is showing nothing special. Anyway Valkyrie/GW/St is my three loves, ok add a KLR 650 for the fire roads.
If you question the Mini Cooper board choice, I bought a manual 2007 Mini Cooper S Convertible from Pappy and Lesa for my wife. The car is the single most fun car I have ever driven. Soon to live in NC.
