This video was done in 2022, no idea of a specific date is shown but was posted just a few days ago and I have no idea if this has been released prior for people to see. This also does not say what size the battery is/was for the demonstration nor does it say how they got it react this way.

Something similar was probably said in the early days of gasoline but I wonder how many people store gas in various places around the interior of their homes or apartments.

Something exploded. Probably an iPhone, what do you think ?  Wink ...

Exponentially fewer than are purposely bending, folding or otherwise inducing thermal
runaway on lithium cells to "see what might happen" is what I think...

I don’t know about anyone else but it makes one stop and think about how many of those batteries may be floating around the house in various items…laptops, tablets, rechargeable toys, tools and speakers and so on as well as motorcycle, atv and car batteries and the quality of those items.

Now they’re making lithium batteries inhousehold sizes that are disposable. I don’t know if they’re the same as lithium ion but there’s Duracell and Energizer and then there’s the cheapo brands.

Fact, Lithium batteries are not safe and they do not have a long life.  I have described this before with my new battery powered drill which uses lithium batteries compared to an older (says 8 to 10 years) old nickel cadmium battery powered drill where the batteries still will charge.  The new drill has one battery, less than two years old (maybe less) that will not charge unless you put a 9 volt DC battery on the output to get the batteries voltage jacked up so it will charge.

No.  Lithium batteries are not reliable nor safe (see message above for real life example).

Quote from the CNN (Clinton News Network) link below:

“Lithium batteries are generally safe and unlikely to fail, but only so long as there are no defects and the batteries are not damaged or mistreated,” said Steve Kerber, vice president and executive director of Underwriters Laboratory’s (UL) Fire Safety Research Institute (FSRI). “The more batteries that surround us the more incidents we will see.”

Edited to add:  I do not keep cans or bottles of gasoline or kerosene in my home (garage and work shop yes).  I have a fire extinguisher in home and work spaces. Not in my vehicles.

Actually that video appears to demonstrate what a contained very hot flame can do.  No doubt they're accurate in that the lithium battery started the fire or even fed it but that's not all lithium battery.

Gasses being released prior to ignition filled the garage just enough so when ignition occurred it blew the door off?

Im not an electric vehicle fan.

I'm not even "pro" lithium batteries.  But they do have some advantages over SLA in some situations.

The deep cycle LiFePo4 lithium batteries (100Ah or higher) will output twice as much power as the same amp hour SLA batteries can at less than half the physical weight of lead acid.  They can be almost fully discharged, and recharged again thousands of times with little deterioration.  When properly maintained and stored, they can hold up to 70% - 80% of their power after 10 years of use.  They have BMS (battery monitoring system) technology to monitor safety concerns, and will automatically shut down in overcharge, over and under voltage situations, and high and low temperature environments.  They are great for portable generator applications.

yikes,  I have what is probably a lithium ion battery in my garage on my e-bike sitting a few yards away from 3 gallons of gas in a gas can.  I wonder if that is an issue?

Not ideal.
