I need to replace the throttle tube.  Does anyone know if you need to disconnect the throttle cables on the carb end to do this?  I have been trying to do it without disconnecting the carb end but it seems like I can't get enough slack in the cables to do it.  Any recommendations?  Thank you.

its hard to do with out slack .. losin up the handlebar mount side handlebars over to the left ..   but wait cover the tank with towels first .. they will fold down dont want them to hit the tank . spray some lube in the cables when you get them off  . no need to mess with carb side good luck

No.  Protect the tank with a heavy blanket and then take the riser bolts loose and slide the handle bar to the left.  Once you do this you should be able to slide the throttle tube off easily.  The tank protection is in case your bars roll down and hit the tank when you loosen the pinch bolts on the risers.

Do you need to unhook the cables from the tube before you slide the tube off the handlebars or unhook them after you slide the tube off?

No just slide the whole thing off, but I suggest not only loosening the handlebar clamp....remove it and totally remove the bars from the risers, no chance of scratching the bars by running them through the clamp that way, and heavy padding on the tank is a very good idea
