There's a small group that have been close friends since early grade school, about 3rd grade I'm told. I've met all but two, but one in particular cracked me up. She's about the same age...80's +/- a few, and I was told about her husband some years back left her to marry a girlfriend of their daughter. Imagine how much younger she would be than he. The wife he left behind was explaining all about it and how young the girl was at the time, then posed the question "how much fun can he have with someone that doesn't even know about "sh-boom...sh-boom" referring to the song/singing style of the early 50's. Grin

Nancy and I started to compare notes and memories. She knew all about Fibber McGee's closet on the radio, Blondie and Dagwood, his boss Mr. Dithers, Mutt & Jeff, Joe Palooka, Lil Abner, etc. We had a blast talking about it with the kids looking at us like we were aliens. Life is good again!  smitten

NONE and I Mean NONE of my Children wanted to watch any classic movies in Black and White!  Lips Sealed I've made mention of this before but whiled in Texas I just happened to be home for a Red Skelton special and they kids asked Whoa he??  Lips Sealed And after 2 hours they were rollin around on the floor with tears in their eyes! And then I asked them WHAT did Red NOT SAY? Four blank expressions. And I pointed out Red NEVER used one curse word. Perry Mason reruns and The Twilight Zone still in B & W and some early Westerns on Grit still in B & W!  cooldude
John recollect going to the movies and seeing newsreels And Cartoons before the feature(s)? Or those scratchy sounding speakers at the outdoor? Or actually getting a big box of popcorn for .25 cents? Nickel candy bars dime sodas? .25 cent a gallon gas with lead? RIDE SAFE.

I remember Gildersleeve's laugh...classic! Here's another oldie I used to listen to in the dark during some blackout practice during WWII. We had a big old floor model radio similar to the one in the picture.

Love 'em too, and I'm even chronologically younger than you (I'm an old curmudgeon at heart).  I think long road trips and travelling to and from swim meets with my parents got me into olde radio shows.  Loved the sound effects, could close my eyes and the pictures just materialized.  I might have to look for some internet radio stations that broadcast these and record some as big mp3 files.  Could be a fun break from riding music every now and then.

And yet most of those OLD SHOWS have a TV-MA rating, the equivalent of an X Rating.

The reason?

People are shown smoking cigarettes.

I remember those radio's.  We had a couple of them as my father repaired them for folks in our little town, usually just a bad power tube.  He started repairing TV's after they hit the market.  We had one of the first ones I think a 5 inch screen

I vaguely remember a few of those shows, not many though you were in the prior generation of radio/TV.  Much like the 2 youngens in their 20's I work with today.  Neither has ever heard of nor watched 70' or 80's movies much at all like Die Hard,  Terminnator, Smokey and the Bandit, and the list goes on and on.

I do miss watching Carol Burnett and Tim Conway in my youth very funny comedians in their day, among others.
