The big flat starts today. Roads across OK to Fort Sill were good. Smelt 2 weed farms. Dodged another storm. If front tables through last night and now blue skies with fluff clouds.

Impressive artillery display! Also, always find it interesting it's up hill headed west in Texas. But, if I remember correctly, you never notice it until you actually look at something that tells you how much things went up hill.

The two times we were out west (southern route) we did take the interstate to New Mexico. So, not a lot of scenery until we got to New Mexico (well the interstate was scenic compared to SC).

We've done the north, east and south approaches to Chaco Canyon and have found that the southern approach is the best. Its still 20 miles on a dirt road, but its an easy road. It is paved once you get to Chaco. To get there you go north on NM 57 at Seven Lakes off of Navajo Service Rte 9. -RP

I do envy, desire, wish for your skills and abilities to take the bike on unpaved roadways. I stopped doing that (unless there was no way out) a couple of years ago.
But it is fun is it not!

I am enjoying watching your travels. I would like to catch up with y’all while you are around Pikes Peak and either meet for dinner the night before or for lunch after y’all come off the Peak. (I am just up the road in Woodland Park.) If that works, let me know which is better and I’ll see if Josh can join us.

Great pics, Paul. Gotta love them hoodoos! Desert riding is awesome -- as long as it's the right time of year.

Just a fun note: So, I went to Amazon Prime and used the "Find" function.
Typed in three letters "gal" and the following responses were shown.
gal, galaxy quest, galaxy gallipoli, gallagher., gala.
Those are the first six responses. I often wonder if the house is bugged.
Oh, it's not free on Amazon but you can get it via Paramount + which I have to watch some other "shows". Well watch tonight and see.
And yes I do think I saw it back in the day.

Watching Galaxy Quest and Goblin Valley State Park starts at time 46:22. I thought it was staged. You know it was made up by the guys making the movie.
I remember seeing the movie in the past.

On out 2015 ride we went through Zion National Park and the mile long tunnel. Back then, no waits (well a couple of cars to get into the park but...). And the ride through the tunnel was interesting.

On the road again.Me too. Sometimes I-81 in VA is a nice drive. Other times like today suck a big one. When it's like this, they should let anyone who wants to drive in the median grass (except the semis).

The landscape in that area always amazes me. So open, no trees, makes one really admire those who traversed that area in wagons or on horseback back in the 1800's. Or even those in the lat 1700's.

Aah the great Southwest. It has been calling me back again. I've explored that area and ridden many of those same roads. Loved the high tech view finders. And talking to the Indian vendors. Such a magical place, but it's usually very hot in the dog days of summer. Looks like you guys are lucking out weather wise, doesn't look too scorching there yet. Maybe early this fall for me...

It continues to amaze me (well may not be the right word) the way you "double back" sometimes. I know its generally to get to Point A. I guess I rarely do that. Well I will go to a "park" to see a "thing" which requires that I leave the main road and then return.
Just an observation.
It is fun to see your travels.

I was not aware of Forest Gump Hill in Monument Valley. I shall have to see if I got there on my three trips to that "unique" place.
Ok, I thought I knew what it was after your comment and I will have to verify if I traveled that way. Don't think I would have a picture but.... one never knows.

That's the highest water level the Blue Mesa has had in years, thanks to heavy snows last winter. Wish I'd known you were coming through Gunnison, I'd have ridden Cottonwood with you. Looks like you sniffed out some good BBQ at 5B's!

Not having a fixed schedule or a route that set in concrete it's hard sometimes to know where I'm going to be on any day or anytime.
I did wonder about that. I gusss. you did say where. you wanted to go as in "places" but how to get there is not the same. I tend to plan my trips (at least a start and stop and a few "points" in-between). I am looking at something maybe different for the future.

I no longer recommend using the relive app. Since I paid for the app I've had a number of different problems culminating today in relive didn't even start when I press start so today's route nothing nothing.
So, have you looked for a substitute? As you know, I use the "sat tracker" thing to report my position. It's set for every five minutes. It does not allow linking of photos and stuff but it does show where I was when. As for photos, I use to have the wife take still photos and let the video camera on the bike do the movies. I like "sailing" through free space in the videos.

Really liked the pictures from the WW II Aviation Museum. I should have visited it when we were out that way. Maybe next time. Dad was a U.S. Marine Aviator in WW II stationed in Pearl Harbor. He flew single engine aircraft but, he never discussed leaving Pearl or any combat but.... I have always had a "fondness" for those aircraft and their capabilities and their pilots.
