Good morning, I realize it has been a while since I've posted. I thought, as I am sitting here having a coffee, I would give an update on Kathy.
For those that don't know Kathy's cancer went from treatable to terminal in January. To say that was a kick in the balls would be an understatement. After 7 years and five surgeries, and always being able to keep her cancer free for periods of time, treatments are no longer working. She was given 6-9 months give or take.
It's been six months. We have been to Ireland. I highly recommend going to Ireland even if your not Irish. That includes you Holmes. Ireland is spectacular. Specially the west southwest corner. We enjoyed Kilkenny, Cobh, (pronounced Cove. It is the last port of call for the Titanic.), Killarney, Tralee, The Ring of Kerry and the Cliffs of Mohr. We poured the perfect pint of Guinness, I was able to blend my own bottle of Irish Whisky at Tullamore DEW, and a few pub dinners and locals. Oh, and the best part, Kathy got to hold and feed a baby lamb. (For her that was worth the price of the whole trip) The whole time Kathy never once slowed down. We did all her medicines at night while she was sleeping so as not to interfere with the days activities. Ten days I wish I could keep reliving. We left before St Patrick's day, according to one ol' timer, "the Irish go to Boston and Chicago for St. Paddy's Day."
A week after our return, we were at it again. This time five days in Charleston SC visiting her son and daughter-in-law. Again she had a fantastic time. We walked two beautiful beaches right near their house. Her biggest fear is Josh being eaten by an alligator while he's playing golf. so, of course Josh takes her for a tour of the course he plays and we see three alligators. I jumped out of the car to get pictures and Josh said "and you're worried about me?" It was a great time and again, she never slowed down.
A couple weeks after that Kathy's daughter Jessie flew up from FLA to spend time with mom. It was again a perfect visit. Much wine tasting, beach adventures and just mom and daughter time.
In May we took a 7 day cruise to Bermuda. This was planned for her and 3 cousins back in 2019,then covid happened a month before they were to sail in 2020. Once it was able to be booked again, the total went to 24 cousins, aunts, uncles including her two brothers and their families that joined Kathy and the original 3. I was even persuaded to join in. It was quite a family reunion. While the weather didn't complete cooperate, she and the rest had a great time. I was able to give myself a sun burn, (dumb Irish fair haired white boy, or should I say red boy) and Kathy sampled many of the fine assortment of drinks. She was a little more tired on this trip but enjoyed everything we could.
After that we a spent a weekend in our favorite place in Camden, Maine. Just to chill and relax. Chill we did. Temps never got over sixty and it rained on and off all weekend. A perfect weekend to recharge and relax.
She is getting more tired, and food seems to be a challenge. She is receiving TPN, which is nutrients through a pic line in her arm. I have to infuse the TPN with vitamins and supplements and then administer it through the pic line in her arm. Every other night, she receives just a saline IV for hydration. The doctors say her numbers are good, and in the middle of the range they should be.
She is not going gently into that goodnight. As I type this, she is in FLA with her daughter and her grandchildren. Yesterday was Animal Kingdom and staying at a hotel in the park. Today their plan is to go back to Jess' house in Melbourne and enjoy beach and family. I was worried about the TPN and hydration, but I got a call that said everything went fine with the infusions. I will still worry. But at least I know she is having fun.
She refuses to go down with out a fight. "It's going to have to take me, because I'm not stopping living."
When she gets back from FLA we are headed to Erie for a family gathering, she has plans for July 4th in Rangeley, Maine, another trip to SC, a weekend at the Cape with friends, a weekend in Camden in August, Labor day Weekend plans, and before she left for FLA she asked "what do you want to do on our anniversary?"
That's in October.
I love this woman.

I really don't know what to say Wally. Sad news BUT I am happy that she is grabbing all the opportunities she has. Good luck!
