Bias ply tire, Firestone 5.5” x 29” overall. Claims it is very sticky. Made for cars from the 30’s, all I know.

I appreciate the effort to post that just for little ole me.

I can only imagine getting caught in the rain with that on the front (without the fender).  Wouldn't do it if I had to give up  my fender.   But, it is a thought..................  For a (my) trike.

Thanks.

That front tire reminds me of what we would run front 'n back when I was a kid. We needed a tire so off to the car junkyard we'd go, often taking quite some time to find exactly what we're looking for then finding a jack in a junker to raise the car to remove the wheel. We'd then remove the tire at home then take the wheels we collected to a second junkyard and sell them...get our money back.  Grin

With all the hoopla over using car tires, I sometimes tell the naysayer "you should have been around 70 years ago, that's all we had most of the time...and I'm still here!"

John,

Although, you've got me by a few years, I do know about making do with what you can get.

The reason John posted this is because I have talked about and believe that (on a trike), there is no need for a motorcycle tire if one could find the appropriately sized car tire.   I am continuing my quest.

I too have pondered this. The front tire does very little leaning. I think I would like a little round off on the sides, but there are plenty that have that.

Yeppers, I'm convinced the right car tire would be fine.   Just gotta find that tire size.

I defiantly like that front tire on the bike with the side car, I would even think about that one on just a regular two wheeled bike.

Not sure I would put it on a two wheeler but definitely considering it for my trike.

Another possibility:

I finally made contact with the owner/rider of this sidecar rig.   The only thing I'm not crazy about is that he had to "Slightly" notch the fender mounting holes to get sufficient clearance between the tire and the fender.   I need to go back and compare tire diameters to see what difference this tire would make in accuracy of the speedometer.   But, I think I'm about to order one of these.

Yes, this tire is more expensive than the appropriate motorcycle tire but, I'm betting it'll get more than double the mileage which, makes it a reasonable purchase.   Thinking that putting beads inside and let her rip!!!  We'll see.

John, I sincerely appreciate your thinking of me when you saw this.   cooldude

That, to me, is a reasonable consideration.  I am running a rear tire on the front of my Interstate.  I like the handling and the long life, but I don't like what it does to the speedometer and odometer readings.  When it wears out I think I will go back to the regular front specified tire.
