I got a new tail bulb from Amazon, something like $16 for a pack of two. Anyway, it’s super bright and flashes three times before holding start bright when you get on the brakes.

I really don't know about those flashing brake lights. Imagine if a hundred cars in front of you had flashing brake lights and applied the brakes approaching a red light.

When other Valkyrie people see my Radiantz tail light, they say "I got to get me one of those!"

I use a Back Off XP brake modulator. Installs easy on the rear fender where the owners manual storage pocket under the seat is. Also has a flasher mode that can be wired in to your turn signals though you have to create a separate switched circuit. On the front, Silverstar and slight adjustment upward and a set LED spots mounted on top of the engine guards. The contrast/location creates a very noticeable light pattern.

This setup gets drivers attention. I give advance warning all the time while braking. No issues for 7 yrs. though I do on occasion flick my brights a couple times when I see "creepers" at a intersection thus I go slower the more they creep.

I know this sounds a bit much but if you're wanting full visibility, do both ends.

When I got my IS back in '08, didn't know about the backoff mod setup.  Also didn't know that every IS didn't have a taillight on the finder.  The PO had put them on.  The taillight on the finder and the brake lights in the trunk flash opposite to each other.

I actually got the idea while riding behind a couple of fairly modded Subarus that both had similar brake light flashing systems. It 100% got my attention!

I’ve got some amber/red switchback LEDs on order for the rear blinkers, too. I’ll run them without the running light mode similar to stock. They’ll blink Amber for turn signal and steady red for brakes. They were cheap enough that I’m willing to experiment with the factory Amber lens in place. If I don’t like the brake light mode then I’ll just disconnect that wiring and have an LED turn signal. Already planning to solder a diode into the turn signal indicator bulb up front.

After a few stops, flashing brake lights gets annoying. Try follow a bike with flashing brake lights. There use to be a brake light bulb that would only flash during abrupt stopping. It had some kind of built-in accelerometer. Never caught on though.
