How much does it change the sound if the piggies are cut off what looks to be about 3 inches out of the muffler? I have Cobra pipes on now and they are a little loud for me on trips and I found a set for sale but they have been cut.

Some people (not me ) think cut piggies make almost no difference. They'd be a lot quieter than Cobras... -Mike

I have one with cut (trimmed not completely removed) piggies (and truck stacks), the other bone stock (except truck stacks too).
I'd estimate a 15 to 20+% increase in noise. It's a rumble, throaty noise. It's not that much at idle, but gets louder with speed and RPMs (which is true for all exhaust).
I now wear earplugs to ride because of constant tinnitus (and for hearing protection); not so much for exhaust but for wind roar (half helmets).
I used to prefer the cut piggies, now I prefer the stock.
One piggie is threaded for OE tip mount. It would be nice if that threaded boss is intact.

I took my standard exhaust off as I'd bought another one, used and in very condition, with the sole purpose of cutting the piggies off. I didn't want to remove them from my existing exhaust as obviously you can't undo what you've cut off. I removed the piggies leaving around 3/4" on each one. I like the more throatier burble it makes. It's not as pronounced as I thought it was going to be but that's not a bad thing. On other bikes I've had, aftermarket exhausts get on your nerves after a while. The difference is noticeable but it's still subtle. This set up will be staying as I'm very pleased with it. Should I ever sell the bike ( not likely) I'll put the standard exhaust back on and sell the "piggy-less" one.

I cut each one a different length (leaving enough to add back if wanted) on my tourer. I did different lengths to try not to get an annoying drone at highway speeds. It’s definitely a little louder and deeper than stock, and I don’t notice a drone. I want to do the truck stacks eventually but enjoying it as is now.

Piggie's cut with stock tips, very annoying @ 60 mph. Wide open tips sound very good in comparison.

PO cut the piggies off on my I/S. After 15 years of droning I welded pipes back on. Not twisted like factory, but I have 36" truck stacks so that's not a problem. MUCHO BETTER ! YMMV.

I cut my piggies, extended them straight and they line up perfectly with triple tips ... I think getting the piggies to the end of the tips is quieter than any of the alternatives where the piggies end inside the tip/echo-chamber. -Mike

Thank you everyone. I picked up the exhaust, I'll see if I can use it as is or use the covers with mine and maybe modify it more later. I'm hoping at the next Inzane I can check out some of Mart T's.

My I/S (SuperValked, w/ Cee Bailey cut-down windshield) has a set of Tourer pipes whose piggies were cut at about 2" out of the muffler bodies. These are run with a set of 18" slash-cut tips. Deep, throaty sound that's more noticeable than stock but by no means objectionable.
The Tourer has a stock pipe set with the tips swapped for a set of Cobra taper tips. (Anyone remember those?) It's quiet. I may put a set of OEM I/S tips on the pipes to get the exhaust out from under the bags but I'm a bit partial to the look of the tapered ones.
