The Valkyrie makes a characteristic whistling noise during idle as it sucks air into the intake. Have any of you tried to reduce that noise, maybe by adding performance improvements like blowers?

Also, is it possible to make v-stacks (or a similarly functioning device) that are actually functional— not just decorative, like these? https://www.prlog.org/11475544-aeromach-velocity-stacks.jpg] https://www.prlog.org/11475544-aeromach-velocity-stacks.jpg

Mine don't.  Are you mistaking the sound of the timing belt rotation for a whistle?

Hm. Maybe I am.
No idea how to figure that out, though, except in person. What I’m talking about sounds like air being gently sucked through a Venturi but I guess it might be a belt

My 2 cents:  functional velocity stacks would be much louder than an airbox with filter, because they're right out in the open, as opposed to air coming through the air filter and box which is silenced a bit by those components and blocked from your ears by the fuel tank.

I also think the intake noise is sometimes as loud as the exhaust noise, because you have 6 carbs feeding 6 hungry cylinders.  That's a lot of air movement.  But it's normally only when accelerating hard when the noise is intrusive - if the noise is present when decelerating, then it's not intake noise but belt noise or other noise as indicated in other responses.

You can try spraying a sound-deadening coating inside the airbox including the underside of the lid - I'm going to do that the next time I change my air filter.

Try checking the hose clamps above the runners. Just tighten. I usually loosen and then tighten. Do not horse them. Check the intake bolts. Use a torque wrench, Try a sniff of Ether  on a running bike, A light squirt at base of runners will tell you if o-rings are bad. If engine revs a little , you have a bad o-ring.

I don’t think I would. If anything were to come loose, that’s all after the filter and can get sucked right into the carbs and engine.

I know I wouldn’t. Sounds like a terribly idea to me.

If the runners are leaking , you are already sucking in some dirt. If you do not want to use ether  , WD40 will work. A sniff will not destroy the engine.

To give you something to compare it to here is a video of my 2001. You can hear the whining sound from the timing belts.
