Has anybody upgraded the factory radio on a interstate with an aftermarket amp?

Yes.  Got this from Electrical Connections.  I can roll down the Interstate with the volume set at 6 and hear it just fine over my Mark T exhaust.  I upgraded all 4 speakers to Alpine.

Thanks Steve  Where did you mount the amp?

It's in the fairing.  I used a pair of steel 4" L brackets.  Drilled and tapped the triple tree, bolted 2 strips of bakelite to the brackets and then the amp to the bakelite.  You can see the brackets have a slight bend in them.  The amp sets in the area in the fairing that is just above the headlight assembly.  There is about 1/4" clearance top and bottom between amp and fairing.  Looks like it is dangling out there, but it hasn't moved at all in 3 years.  I wasn't sure I could get mine mounted like Jeff K's.  If I remember correctly, the amp measures 7" x 9".  You can see it is set back as far as it will go...it touches the back side of the dash panel.
