So many colors to choose from yet so few stand out

Covington, TN

« on: August 12, 2023, 05:23:35 AM »

f6gal posted a picture of a bike in Europe that won a competition on FB.   It's has a ghost flame theme and I absolutely love it.

This got me to thinking about getting something like that done on the Rat bike but, I don't know squat about painting.   Are Ghost Flames all that much different from other painting?  Is the cost extremely higher in cost.   Just curious, something I'm considering for the Rat Bike.  I'm sure it'll cost more and most likely put it out of my reach but, if you don't ask, you'll never know.

I don’t consider those ghost flames but that’s not the answer to your question. I had some ghost flames on the Supertank I had my Valkyrie back around 03-04. You could only see them in certain light conditions which could be interesting watching people walk up and look and move their heads around to get the full effect.

My tank was painted by a local guy and I think it was the first time he had been asked to do something like this. I don’t remember how much I paid but it was extremely reasonable and the quality was great. That said, I would expect the cost for a job like on Facebook to be double what a standard job would cost. Mac would be a person to ask. I seem to remember he has had some custom work done even though I think he bought some of his bikes already completed.

Thanks for the response.  Wish I could have seen that tank you had painted.   I'm sure it was very cool.
If it's double the cost, then it'll just have to stay in the bucket list but, that's what I'm thinking I would like to do.

I'm with John, I don't consider those ghost flames. And yes, flames...be they ghost or stand-out as those are...will tend to hit the wallet.

Not sure why the link doesn't work for you, according to others, it works for them (based on responses.

I figure the cost will be out of my capability but, when you don't know, you ask.

Silly me…I was looking for a video (when it clearly says picture) of a bike with flames out the exhaust.

Now I get it…the flames are a nice touch.

I'm not a facebook member. Maybe Willow isn't either.

What comes up for me is the intended Valkyrie picture
with an overlay of CLICK HERE TO JOIN FACEBOOK
button that fills the whole page. I just click on the
X instead and now I can see the valkyrie picture...

Bright red and orange flashy flames, subdued flames, ghost flames.

Some more subdued are nice, like on the Faceplant page.

You can always ask around your area about painters and ride the bike around to them and ask about it.

The guy who's cheap and never done them before is to be avoided.  Good painters want to get paid like Michelangelo.

I'd pass on this one.  You'd get a lot of funny looks, and some funny offers.

Well, Ghost Flames or not, I really like that paint.   Well, all except those painted valve covers.

Thanks, f6gal.

Here’s my old I.S. I had a local pinstriper hand paint the flames on this about 10 years ago. I think he charged me $200-250.

Very Nice!  If'n I could get something like that with a little color inside the lines for anywhere near that money, I'd probably do it but, I doubt that's possible today.

The bags, mounting hardware and guards will be here Tuesday.  Will find out this week when I take the bags to the painter what he can or can't do and what it's going to cost.   A man's got to know his limitations.  Wink

Mine had ghost flames when I got it , so I'm not sure on the $$$  Mine look mostly yellow , orange and red  ..but when you walk around it in the sunlight you see alot of purple flames that you can't normally see.

Although I don't know for sure, I'm thinking that since the bike is one or the Orange and Black 98s, flames may have to be another color.
