I agree with you...
I do feel that I took it apart just in time though. I wiped off the face of the flange, but the gear is just as it came out of the wheel. I had used the big Oring more than once, and It appears as if it allowed the moly paste to work it's way out... it was all on the face of the flange. I usually don't go that long without taking it apart.
Going to break down and use a set of my new O-rings this time. I mean a set of Orings might be .50 cents from The Oring Store, it's like pulling teeth.

I've got several o-rings sets at the house if you need one. Just let me know.

Sounds like the o'rings need replaced. Got my o'rings from Red Eye. I'm still using Honda Moly 60 but M77 is the replacement and yes there are all kinds ideas on what works but I'm sticking to OEM paste.

Yeah, I replaced the Orings this time...
I also am still using a tube of Moly 60, but I will use it up at some point. The container says "60 % molybdenum disulfide" printed right on it. As I look at the M-77 and all the other products, I don't see any mention of the contents by percentage. Has anyone looked into this? I certainly don't want to experiment with something that has worked flawlessly, like putting one cup of flour instead of two into Grandmas rum balls.
I know the product you mentioned, 98valk, does say 60%, but is is pretty expensive per ounce.

A bit of research shows that the TS-60 SG maybe the best replacement regardless of price, looks like you did your homework.

More than 50% and less than %70 Molybdenum Sulfide by weight according to the Molykote M-77 msds... -Mike Yeah, I replaced the Orings this time...

More than 50% and less than %70 Molybdenum Sulfide by weight according to the Molykote M-77 msds...
I thought it strange that there would be such a wide range of an ingredient in a product, so found a 2012 MSDS on the M-77 and it says
CAS Number Wt % Component Name
1317-33-5 55.0 - 75.0 Molybdenum disulfide
63148-52-7 15.0 - 35.0 Dimethyl, phenylmethyl siloxane, trimethyl-terminated
7620-77-1 3.0 - 7.0 12-Hydroxy lithium stearate
None 1.0 - 5.0 Vendor proprietary ingredient
I don't understand a product with such wide ranging composition.

I was going to stay out of this but I just can’t. I have serviced the final drive on a Valkyrie maybe 100 times now on 7 or 8 different Valkyries. One, the owner demanded I use only Belray Waterproof. It maintained his splines just fine with no moly. Another used cheap axle grease and splines showed no wear after a couple tire changes. I use a mixture of Guard Dog moly paste and Lucas heavy duty. The truth is even the worst grease, that moly60 crap in the little black tube Honda used to sell will protect the splines as long as it stays in there. I like the protection I believe moly gives but whatever you use make sure the drive side gets the bulk of the grease/paste and the flange just gets a light coat to minimize push off

I've probably got as many (if not more) final-drive services as you under my belt on my own Valkyries and numerous others, and yours is the approach I take as well. For the Ohio crew, I also keep several sets of O rings and thrust washers handy just-in-case. So if you're down for repairs and need one today, PM me.

HA, I knew if I talked about moly long enough you wouldn't be able to resist Jeff. Hope you are all healed up and back in the saddle with out any problems. Not looking to change anyone's mind, and have no reason to change mine, just looking for a replacement for the Moly 60 which has served me well.
I did find out that MSDS are not required to give specifics about percentages of ingredients in a product as their purpose is to state the "nformation on the potential hazards (health, fire, reactivity and environmental)" of a product, thus the range they state. I found that their is a set formula for each of the moly formulations, and after looking further into these products, do believe that the TS product is the best to suit my needs even if a bit pricey. Thanks all

Well it's been about 8000 miles since I had the rear wheel off. Everything looks great. It appears as if all the carrier grease got slung out of the flange and splines, it was all down the face of the flange, but the molybdenum saved the day. The flange is the one hubcapSC sent me about 10 years ago, still looks like new. I'll clean it up a bit and stuff it full of Moly, good to go. So... Pancho, what are you using?

This is what I use...... Made me look. That looks like a good company, they have dry PTFE spray too... I have something that the vendor says to use PTFE spray on and I only know about one other dry type... CRC... -Mike

Being a curious foole, to see what the noise is about, I went and purchased a jar of the TS-60 SG Moly paste. At the time, I didnt realize that it comes in such a small container - 2.0 ounces. I am going to recheck my final gear job, and use this. Will this be enough? I'll order more if needed. And while I'm at it, post up photos...

Curiousity kills the cat, and I'm so good at wasting bucks, I bought another jar from the Beemer place, link above and here.... https://www.beemershop.com/product/ts-60-spline-lube.htmlGeneral comment - the TS Moly group, screwed up my email and I was unsure if they had my order, I had to call them to give them a kick to find out what was going on..... got it resolved, yes, but a hassle. The Beemer place, the order was instantly confirmed via auto email as the world buy online is accustomed to now adays... ---->>> ok, here on out, I'm buying from the Beemershop, far better experience and motorcycle focused...
