Life is good when I can ignore the noise around me. Couple of good bike trips under my belt this year. Staying a little ahead of the bill collectors every month too! One indulgence that has caught up with me is my eating choices and subsequent increase in my A1C. It’s amazing how people (me) can intentionally kill themselves slowly with a smile on their face! I’m not a connoisseur of fine foods but I really like what I like.

But there are consequences. So my doctor made some changes to my medications which made sense to me until I went to pick up my prescriptions. Close to $1,000.00 to start and several hundred additional dollars every month for who knows how long. I left them with the druggist and decided that was all the motivation I needed to straighten up and fly right with my diet. Not quite a week into it and I’m seeing some positive results in my glucose levels but it will take a few months to see if I’m having a real effect on the A1C.

When I was younger, bedroom olympics was a good diversion, when I started thinking about eating. That doesn’t work as well as it used to. I’m hoping I don’t have to get a job to keep my mind occupied, guess I’ll go and clean on the bike some!

Cleaning up the body is a difficult process. Make little changes. The body  reacts to sudden changes.
Over the years we have quit processed foods , sugar added and salt.  I drink a gallon of water a day on the average. You may want to try a de-tox. It is not necessary to buy a de-tox system. There are many sites that will guide you. I used the rice method and had good results.  A detox is a sudden radical change , but it is a good jump start.  I am going against how I started this reply.  It got me going on the right path. I intend to do another de-tox in the near future as my present situation is very stressful.

            Good luck and try hard.

The "new" diabetes drugs are out of sight ($$$) - so if you can maintain on the cheaper drugs, good diet, and good habits - the cheaper it will be for you.

Not to brag too much, but after I started treatment on my own diabetes ( diagnosed Type 2, age 55 years), except for when wife was undergoing cancer treatment and MIL's dementia started spiraling down - My A1C has pretty much stayed at 6.0 - 6.1 (stress period it went up to 6.4). My drugs are 1000 Mg Metformin, 10mg Lisinipril, and 2 mg Glimipiride. Now at age 62.

I must be blessed.

Walking about 45 minutes, sometimes good hills almost every morning before breakfast
Good on you enjoy every day !
for me, I try to get at least 3 miles daily,    No major problems with my health. BP is low normal
do not pay attention to cholesterol or any other stuff  My grandparents who lived to 100+ said fat is good for you to eat and I think they were right.  No processed foods for snacks.

Would like to lose 20 lbs down to 215 from 235.  Fat is all in the middle which is normal for many of us.

Dad had diabetes and congestive heart failure so this is on my mind

I have a  fruit and vegetable shake after my walk, presently its banana, blueberries, strawberries and sbout 20 cherry tomatoes, some magnesium (calm) and 2 scoops of superfood.    Also some kale if I remember to pick it from the garden

I tend the garden every morning and enjoy picking what is there.

My cherry tomatoes and winter squash are over 8 feet high

This winter squash just fell off the vine, the squash on the right was hidden under the plant  It was 7.2 lbs and made a great blueberry zuke bread and the rest is in the freezer as shredded zuke for baking.

John, this past year has been full of changes for me also...like, who gets remarried at 85?!? In the process of courting, getting her house ready to sell(sold for cash the day it was listed & well over asking), her moving to my place, traveling, it all hit my sugar and A1c rather hard. Now that I'm facing left hip replacement, my primary care dr. got on my case with both barrels. I've been working on losing weight, a bit over 20 lbs. so far which helped so now the surgery is on. The sugar is down a bit over 30 points and the A1c down 1.5 pts. but now I'm sick of cardboard and water every day.  Grin

Fact is, the older we get the more difficult it is to lose that subcutaneous crisco. It has helped by changing my eating habits and what I do to control my elbowitis...that's the tendency for my mouth to fly open every time I bend my elbow.  Wink

Look to books by Dr Jason Fung on fasting.. Couple it with walking and some better diet choices and you can leave the pharma pigs empty handed, at least empty of your money.
Type 2 diabetes is not a disease, it's a condition of insulin resistance.. fully reversible. There is no reason on Earth for the charges those greedy reprobates are demanding for these 'diabetes' body polluting chemicals.
