I know Valks are a bit clunky and noisy shifting due to the square cut gears, but mine seems like it is getting worse.  Wondering if it's not time to take a look at the slave cylinder.  How do you know?  Mine is not leaking.  Fairly recent oil change with Rotella T6, but I could not get 15W-40 and used 5W-40.  Would that make a difference?  I have not checked the bushing in the clutch handle, but will soon.  Brakes and clutch bled a month ago.

Hold the clutch lever in with the bike on level surface engine running bike in gear. If it starts to creep , clutch slave or master cylinder is leaking.  If no creeping , consider a shifter buddy.

Yep, Shifter Buddy smoothed out the shifting on my bike.  cooldude Easy to install and worth the investment.

My guess is the brass bushing in your clutch handle is worn and sloppy

All GL1500 transmission gears are Straight Cut Gears.  The GW 1500 only the 5th OD gear is actually a helical cut gear for noise reduction.
Is the Valkyrie 5th gear also helical cut?, I don't know, I have never been able to verify that. however due to EPA noise regs I surmise it is also.

Slave cylinder needs fluid change timeline the same as brake fluid.

I tried using T6 "new formula" (EPA changes) after using it since 2007 and I had noisier engine and funky shifting. Changed out @ 100 mi. to Valvoline 4T and that lasted 3000 mi. before breaking down. Been using Mobil 1 w/o issues.

I've been using 5w40 t6 for the past 40k on the yellow bike with no issues. Been using rotella in all my bikes and everything else I've owned for 20 years. Like others I have the shifter buddy installed on both valkyries. It did improve the shift feel and I recommend it. Starting really noticing the shift slop around 70k. Especially going into second.

I cannot see how 'straight cut' or 'helical cut' gears can affect shifting. The only moving parts while  shifting are the dogs.

The bushing is just pressed in. You have to tap it out the correct way. Look and maybe measure go from the small side to the larger
