http://www.boom-studios.net/the-incredibles-family-matters-tpb-1.html

After the success of the Pixar super hero film The Incredibles, many young fans grabbed the video game sequel to continue the adventure with the super-family.

Now, parents/grandparents can buy a follow up trade paper back (four comics collected together) to encourage their favorite little ones to read. The story inside has art that looks like the movie, is easy to read, yet has a story that adults can enjoy. This is a great book to read along with reluctant readers.

And remember that graphic novels, comics, and the like help increase reading competency because they stretch phonics to learning new vocabulary and increases lexile scores.

Yeah, it sounds like an add, but I know some of you are trying to figure out how to get the modern kiddo to read (which can be hard at times) competing with text messaging, video games, and other alluring devices.

Or, pull the plug. That stops video games pretty quick.

The 13 year old read LOTR and The Hobbit before 11 yo and the Twilight series is read as soon as it hits the store anong with The Dragonriders of Pern.
Mattilla the Son reads everything Star wars, and I mean everything including any and all seires books he can find. He blew through all of his uncles and then we stuck some fantasy in front of him (Shasteef) and he is going through those.
The little crumb cruncher is coming along, I expect that the Hobbit will get read by next year.

Classic fun stories that they can relate to or there are movies about are great.

However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results.

I'm with the Varmitmist.  I really don't see comic books being the solution to adolescent illiteracy.

Almost all electronic devices come with an off switch.

Unfortunately, you're asking the wrong generation.
Drop-out rate is on the moon and teen pregnancy is up again after the whole abstanence thing.

We probably all need to look a lot closer at the track records of our party and representatives as it applies to actions taken on behalf of Education--not just partison talking points bs.
