I'll trade your snow for my ice! The trails around here are more like ice skating rinks!

Well, I just got in from playing Jack Nicholson (The Shining) for 2 1/2 hours in the blizzard.  I didn't start soon enough, and have at least three 20 foot Leyland Cypress down with the root balls out.  All the rest of the Leylands, Va red cedar, hemlock and other evergreens are bent way over. My huge old white pine has four big limbs down in the driveway.  I go out with a long pole and try to knock and shake as much heavy wet snow off everything I can reach (right down my neck)...it's a heart attack job, soaked in my snowmobile suit.  While I'm out there, the whole sky turns an a shimmering electric blue, a series of big flashes, and the power is out (probably a big tree over the lines down the road).  So I shoveled out the shed doors, and got the generator going and the house plugged in....at least I have lights, heat and electronics.  We may be out for a long time.  Got it filled with 5 gallons and only have about two or three more.  After that I guess it's try to siphon gas from the bikes or the car.  I'm not sure how many hours per gallon a 9 horse 4600 W generator OHV/OHC engine gets.  Supposedly only 2-3 more inches by 6AM.

Gonna snow until sometine tomorrow:
LOOKING BACK AT THE BIGGEST STORM OF RECORD FOR WASHINGTON DC... THE JANUARY 1922 KNICKERBOCKER STORM... 28.0 INCHES OF SNOW WAS PRODUCED FROM 3.02 INCHES OF LIQUID WATER. CURRENT FORECASTS FOR THIS EVENT HAVE TOTAL LIQUID FALLING FROM THIS STORM APPROACHING 3 INCHES... WHICH ACCORDINGLY WOULD CREATE A SNOWFALL THAT WILL RIVAL THE KNICKERBOCKER STORM TOTAL. GENERALLY ACROSS THE REGION... 20 TO 30 INCHES OF SNOW WILL FALL BY SATURDAY EVENING.

Looks just like this outside (but I can't find my ax  :-()

Thanks for the offer Rick I'll know monday morning if my employer wants me to roll or wait a couple days for the roads to get in better shape. If you get a chance check out I-81 tomorrow evening and let me know. I'm not heavy at all and will be returning empty. I've got a National crane boom on that was twisted alittle and the only way National will claim its safe for a man-basket is if they do the repairs.

27 inches WOW  Shocked  That would paralyze this area for weeks. Whats the deepest snow fall you've seen in the Cumberland mountains ?

We got 3" from the storm last night. Well I think its 3". The wind is blowing so hard it never stuck. I had 3' drifts up around the deck. Did get out and plow before work today near the road. Last 20' of driveway was 8" deep from the plow trucks going up the road.

C'mon...   enough already.    Here is South Jersey (near Philly) we've got 27" of snow and still falling. We had 23" the week before Christmas...   This is the most our area has had in one winter since they've kept records.  I knew I should have bought that snow-blower on clearance last April...  we wouldn't have had more than flurries.
But our lab loves it.
Getting ready to go shovel again.....
