My generation had muscle cars. These kids today have little 4 bangers with disgusting sounding exhaust. I call them muffler cars.

Well, on the way to church enjoying the Valkyrie in cool air and light traffic. At a stop light I hear BOOM BOOM BOOM!!  I was able to ascertain the extremely loud bass was coming from a little white Nissan. So I passively try to get some distance between me and the horrendous music but that little sucker stayed right with me. I think he thought we were racing. So, at the third light we were side by side. So at the green I did a legal launch. Didn’t have to exceed the speed limit to leave that mosquito car in the dust. He backed off (in shame?) I think maybe.

Just because your car makes all kinds of obnoxious noises doesn’t make it fast. And just because my bike is very very quiet doesn’t make it slow.

The best thing was I got rid of the BOOM BOOM in my ears. I couldn’t help thinking, if me on a motorcycle wearing a full face helmet with music playing couldn’t stand the volume of his music inside his car with windows up. How dang loud did it have to be in that little tin box!!!

Ok story over for the night.

i could be wrong, but I think some of those mufflers were called cherry bombs.    either way,  why try to make a 4 cylinder sound so funky?  definitely not a muscle car sound.  still remember one trip out outskirts of shady bad part of Chicago IL area a guy in a 4 door car was BOOMING his crap rap music so loud next to my tundra truck that the loudness vibration was vibrating my rearview mirror, no joke.

Reminds me of some years back a friend and I were riding our bikes and caught a red light. This kid in a noise maker pulls up next to us with his BOOM BOOM BOOM rattling my gut. My friend asked him to turn it down at least while at the light but got nothing but smart alec answers. My bud got off his bike, grabbed the door and reached in, yanked out the keys and threw them a good 30 yards off to the side. Got back on his bike and we rode off with the green. Lesson learned that day? My buddy has a good arm!  Grin

This thread cracks me up. How old are we anyway?
Kids these days don't have muscle cars, so they make do with what they have access to in order to attract attention. We did the same with our cars, but I was before the muscle car era.
My 1st car was a '39 Plymouth and about the first thing I did was order a steel pack muffler from J.C.Whitney so that 'ol sedan would bark. It didn't have enough power to lay rubber so I had to be satisfied with the exhaust mod, such as it was. Now I had friends who had a '51 Ford with a flathead and dual glasspacks, another guy had a Studebaker pickup with a V-8 of some sort & straight pipes.
The technology for loud ass stereos hadn't come along yet or we would have had that too.
I don't think the kids are doing things much different than we did, our generation just got old.

Ya,  some people ask me why I took the Cobra pipes off for stockers. I usually say I got too old for them. Lol

Around here they are called fart cans, not mufflers.

muscle cars are still around, i'm 75 and drive a 2013 435 h.p. vette

i just sold a 2022 dodge challenger with over 500 h.p. from the factory, their still out there, the problem is the kids today are too lazy to work and save enough to buy one. my first official muscle car was a 65 GTO, in them days with tri power thay made 335 h.p. and we thought they were space ships. i saved every dime i made for years, even through the military and bought the gto when i got out of the Navy. there are factory cars out there today that will melt the paint off my old GTO, thanks to your president and his demoncrat pals we may be relegated to cars with sewing machine motors in them somedays

This thread cracks me up also. I’m sure my 8track blasting out Led Zeppelin was irritating to adults then also. They probably thought my jacked up Caprice with a hopped up 396 was dumb too. I guess age doesn’t bring grace to all.
