Being tall this bit me, I was 8 or 9 at most, trick or treating, some lady's dog was barking and she sniped "He only barks at kids who are too old to be trick or treating"..... Curse of being tall.....
The 12 year old triplets will be going this year, possibly their last. Kaelynn is pushing 5'7" already so they'll run up to the same thing I did, although people seem to be more forgiving these days.

DW decided a couple of years ago to not turn the lights on. AND since I got banned from handing out candy due to an incidence many years ago with a ninja costume, mask, and a rubber knife, no candy to be handed out at our house.

I enjoyed the halloween visitors for many years; especially the little ones.
Some years ago, 4-5 14-15yo boys (too old to trick or treat) showed up with no costume, just jeans, Tshirts, backwards ball caps and do rags, and all carried Louisville Sluggers.
So what's your costumes? We're gangbangers.
Yeah, I don't think so. You appear to enjoy intimidating people and other trick or treaters, so get off my porch, no candy for you.
An hour later, 4 girls maybe 9-11yo showed up dressed as 9 months' pregnant.
Did your parent's see your costumes? They sure did.
I gave them candy. Then turned the lights off. And they've been off for Halloween ever since.
With tainted or sabotaged candy, relatively few houses in my neighborhood participate in Halloween anymore. All participators decorate, put lots of lights up, and the treaters come early, often with parents. It's too bad it's petered out, but probably for the best.
What also gets me is that some of the least cared for, most overgrown (rundown dump) homes in my neighborhood are the ones that put the most effort into Halloween decorations.

Volunteering to haul the kiddies around "Trick or Treating" is a good way to get a cut of the stash. Just kidding, I don't like or eat chocolate but, love the candied corn. Unfortunately, I seem to have eaten too much of that kind of thing in years gone by. Rams

Don't even have to haul 'em around... Just either declare you're inspecting the candy for safety and "disposing" of any questionable pieces, or give the kids a civics lesson and declare 40% Daddy Tax to prepare them for their first paycheck in the real world...

we have too early trick or treat hours in our small town 4 to 7 p.m.. I do not get home until 650 p.m. so not bothering again this year. During covid our town thought it a good idea to just leave a big bowl of candy out on the front step. about halfway thru 3 13-14 year olds IMO too old to be trick/treating grabbed each a HUGE handful or more depleting half the bowl. I caught them, yelled at them to put it all back and told them they should be ashamed of themselves since I saw their HUGE bag of candy am sure doing it all over town. They looked puzzled yet scared thinking I was going to come out and whoop them. They reluctantly put it all back and went away quietly. Few kids ruin it for all others as usual.
Even the 2 year old kids not knowing any better, their parents right there, do NOT say a darn word when the little kid grabs 4-5 candy bars yet parents NOT say one word to put all but one back. Thus, no more.
And what is it with the wimpy parents and kids being driven around all over our small town in 70K SUVS? EVER heard of walking a whole 1 mile long from one side of our town to another? How hard is that? surely is safe enough in our small town.

A girl, about age 11 came dressed as a little warrior. She pulled out a real Samurai sword, 3 feet long to show me. That's scary. And on my front porch.

Handing out candy. Tootsie pops and Tootsie rolls.
Snunk a Tootsie roll for myself. Promptly took a crown off a tooth. Every damn year seems like. Wasn't even hard and sticky. Like it just scared the crown off the tooth.
Hate Halloween.
My wife works for the local dentist office. So I know somebody. No worries.
Halloween story. This was maybe 20 years ago.
Got 2 chaise loungers and set one up on each side of the side walk leading up to our front steps.
In one lounger I made a dummy out of a pair of jeans and a flannel shirt stuffed with leaves and such. Under the lounger I attached a rotisserie motor, ran the spit through the shirt with a carved pumpkin on the top so the pumpkin head on the dummy would spin around. Worked great. Had grasses coming out the sleeves and pant legs.
On the other lounger was me in coveralls wearing a black, hideous, pull over mask. I stuffed grasses and such in the end of my sleeves and pants as well. Gloves too. Spooky music blaring. I sat still in the lounger as the kids and parents walked by me towards the house for candy. But I was handing out the candy. Few came up expecting the big dummy to hand out candy.
Scared the bejesus out of people. We're talking stuff of legend here.
Had one dad tell his kid to go up to the house and the kid said he was scared. The dad walked him up the sidewalk and stopped to prove to his kid it was just a dummy. Got right in my face. I say "Happy Halloween" He leaves his kid and runs to the street screaming.
Had a number of variations on that theme that night. Good times.
A few years ago, a dad and his kid came up to trick or treat. I open the door to hand out the candy and the dad is all excited. The dad was the kid who had his own kid now and had to tell me about it again.
It was that epic.
Only time I did this. The following number of Halloweens were either snowy or just too cold and eventually just no longer had an interest in it.
Probably lost a crown that night as well.
Happy Halloween everybody.

serk, you are going to have your hands full in a few years keeping the boys at bay with the daughter, for sure. Yep, time to buy another firearm to keep them at bay.
Just be civilized like I had to do once. Wife talked me out of going to nearby town and beating the living daylight out of a 17/18 year old kid harassing thru texting on cell phones my daughter to the point my daughter was crying non stop telling lies about her. I called the county sheriff and she came over and she then went to kids parents home put a restraining order on him and if ONE more text, he goes off to juvi.
I guess best to let the sheriff's dept. handle those cases or I would be in jail by now a few times with my daughter in high school
