I was wondering if the com ports on an interstate could be used as a 12v source, and if so, if anyone knows which ports in it are positive and ground. Figured it would make for a clean usb plug port if it provides enough power.

I’ve never heard of it. There is an accessory wire under the right side cover. If I remember correctly, it is good for 5 amps. In the long run you’d probably be a lot better off installing a power distribution block. There will likely be other stuff down the road you’ll want to hook up.

Thanks for the info! I probably will take advantage of that accessory cable as well. It does seem what I was thinking is possible since there is this cable that exists but is micro usb but I could always use an adapter. Just figure it would be nice to use the com ports for something, especially since the passenger one is right below the seat so would be convenient for a passenger to charge their phone.

Found this in the manual, assuming I can tap it for power, will check with the multimeter.

Just found this on eBay, exactly what I was looking for, just need to check that it gets enough power for USB charging https://www.ebay.com/itm/134255069773?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=KjdGlAEMRuq&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=RNdmjxfmT8y&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

You peaked my interest. I looked at the schematics page 8 and the pilots for the headset are not labeled for power. They may have it, just not annotated. I do see the 3 pin Molex for the CB has power and ground. Of course if you have a CB, it is already used.

I have  PC8 on mine and connect the USB to that.

I do not think it would be wise to use the radio or CB for any source of auxiliary power.

As suggested a fused power panel is a much safer way to distribute power.

You can buy all kinds of USB charging ports, that connect to the battery.

My latest one has an on-off switch.
