Hangin' out here beats a tree on the head any day!

Many of you don't know of or haven't met our trusty German Sheppard. But others who have been to the Lucky 7 Ranch....have met her. We had to put her down last night....the tumor she had was so large she got to the point where she couldn't eat the last few days....and had lost 30 pounds in the last 4-6 months. We could tell it was time. But rather than be sad about this....i wanted to share some pretty amazing things about this dog....in celebration of her!

She would always know when you were pulling up towards the long drive to our house. I don't know if she knew the sound of the engine in VARIOUS different vehicles/motorcycles we drove/road....or if she knew it was about time for us to come home (despite coming home at various times)....or if she was just waiting at the top of the hill and started running down the drive when she heard a vehicle approach? all i do know, is ALMOST EVERY time i came home, here she would come running down the drive to meet and greet me...anf follow me up to the house with her tail just a waggin'!

When i left home, she'd follow down the drive...and if i went LEFT toward the highway, she'd stop at the end of the drive...wiat a bit...and i'd see her in my mirror heading back up the drive toward the house. BUT IF I WENT RIGHT....it was as if she knew i probably wasn't going far.....and she'd follow along side the county road we live off of. She'd run about 25-30 mph...along side the vehicle. If i turned right again down the dirt road that borders our far property line...she'd follow me ALL the way...knowing there was about a 99% chance i'd just go to the end of the property line and then turn around and come back (i do this to check the far fence line).

When i got the four wheeler out of the barn, she'd follow eagerly, knowing fun times were about to be had running around on the property. She'd chase the four wheeler....again...running about 25-30 mph.

if i got my fishing tackle, she'd eagerly follow me out to the ponds. There, she'd patiently sit near by me....while i fished...always watching over me. if i fished for a couple of hours....5 hours...didn't matter....she sat there...watching over me (the ONLY exception would be if Sherry or Susan came home....even though the driveway is FAR AWAY from even the back pond.....somehow, she could hear or sense their arrival...and....in THAT case, she would leave me to go greet them).

If i got the John Deere tractor out of the barn...and hooked up the bushog, she'd folllow me out to the far pasture...then sit on a hill where she could watch me cut the hay//field. If i spent 4...6 ...hours bush hogging....she sat there.....4....6 hours..never leaving (unless the girls came home...see above!). when i stopped for a break and got off the tractor and headed to the house to eat or get a drink...she'd get up and escort me to the house.

When i walked the property line, she was always by my side. When the tree fell on my head....she was licking my face....as i regained consciousness....and she escorted me to the house.

i could go on and on....but you get the point. She was always faithfully by my side or near me...whenever i was ANYWHERE ON THE PROPERTY...no matter what i was doing....no matter how long...how cold...rain....shine...hot.... Always there. Always waiting for us to come home....greeting us at the end of that driveway...following the other bikes up the driveway when friends visited.

She in many ways embodied what i love in life. She loved being outdoors...like i do. Loved roaming that pasture...the woods. Loved fishing with her master.....walking the property line. She hated being cooped inside (just like me). That's why i knew yesterday, when she didn't want to leave the garage when i left for work...she just laid there....for the FIRST TIME EVER....i knew, it was time......

What a GREAT dog! We'll miss her. But today, i salute her. Tonight...i'll raise a GIANT margarita in her honor.

just thought i'd share...especially for those who did know her.

Chaos.....guard dog of the Lucky 7....RIP..........

I'm sorry to hear of her passing, Tim.  Chaos was a very good companion and I'm sure will be greatly missed by you, Sherry, and Susan.

My condolences to all of you.  The Lucky 7 will miss her impressive presence.

Sorry to hear the bad news, Tim.  Dogs are the greatest, and farm dogs seem to be even better.  Like the saying goes, "If they don't have dogs in Heaven, I want to go where dogs go."

Do you plan to get another?

we knew her days were numbered last year....and in anticipation...we got a Doberman ...so she could help train the new dog on "guard duties". I hope the "new dog" (one year old) is ready now......

I'm sure the Doberman will have big "shoes" to fill.  We have lost some too and it is never easy.

My brother-in-law and sister have had 3 dobes and now have a 4th and a Rodesian Ridgeback.  The Dobes have all been awesome dogs.  They LOVE people and suffer separation anxiety when their owners aren't around.  If your starts eating your house when your not around, that could be it.  In our family we've had dobes, shepherds, JR terriers, and golden retrievers.  All are/were great, although the JRT thinks it is the baddest one of the bunch.  Good luck with the new dog.  Gotta Name?

sorry to hear that Tim. Carolyn and I don't own a dog now 'cause we like climbing on the Valk and going off for days. Sometimes on short notice. But we've owned 4 German Shepherds. Great dogs and Chaos was a fine looking specimen.

Tim-Bob, sorry to hear about the puppy passing.

The Dob, let it be known she/he is wanted.    Once ya do that, hang on to your drawers, as she/he will always be there.

All ya have to do, is when you walk close to her/him, call her/him by name and say Come while patting your thigh.   Do it till she/he looks you up if ya come outside, or come home.      Dob's are funny that way, they want to be loved and wanted.

If she/he has an accident, make damn sure you scold her/him performing the accident, so she/he knows what you are talking about.     Scold one and they don't know what for that is the quickest way to make one think they are not wanted and not bother to come to you or come to get petted.....

Used to raise and sell Dob's in California when I was off duty.   Our yard was not fenced at the acreage we lived on and I taught one of the Bitch dogs to baby sit the kids in the yard.     Dog and the kids all knew what the boundaries were.  Princess kept them in there.   1 day 2 of the kids decided to test her ability to keep up.   1 went out of bounds on the West side, and 1 went out of bounds on the East side........   She grabbed the oldest one and pulled him into the yard about 30', dropped him, turned and snarled, and headed for the younger one.  She gently nudged this one into the yard boundary and left her alone.    Went over to the other one, knocked him over, and then proceeded to set on his chest, smacking the kids nose with his short hard tail......   After about 5 minutes of that she got up and kind of trailed him where ever he went.  He'd get close to a boundary, and make like he was going to cross it, she jumped in front of him, snarled at him and set down.......    She ruled the yard and most of the inside of the house.     She always slept in the girls room when they were young.    Lost her at the age of 13 years 200 days...............

Our very first day on the Valk up on the BRP!

Sorry For your loss!! It never gets any better! We lost J.R.(our 10 year old boxer) 2 weeks before Christmas, and the house still feels empty. We still have his dad and another little female that keeps us all in stitches. But, we really Miss J.R.!!
If you are not familiar with the Rainbow Bridge, Check it out: it is the only way I can imagine heaven to be:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

R.I.P. JR.....We will be seeing you at the Rainbow Bridge!

They become such a part of our families and when they pass it really hurts.  I've lost two furkids in the last two years and  cry almost  everytime I think about them.  However, I know they are waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge and I will see them again someday.

We had a kitten pick us for it's forever family and I really feel like he has some of both dogs in him and our other cat that passed years ago.

Animals are incredible with the amount of unconditional love they give us all thier lives.

Sorry for the passing of CHAOS, but you will keep her in your heart always.

The hurt will pass and before you know it you will find another FOREVER friend to share your life.  Won't be the same, but will still give you the unconditional love our furkids have.

Take care and know your VRCC family is thinking of you.
