Thinking it would not be very busy but was really surprised, apparently there were a lot of new year resolutions made cuz the place was jumping. Grin  I guess I understand but a couple weeks in past years has shown me their passion doesn't last. As for myself, I enrolled in my current location about 4.5 yrs. ago, right after moving to Wisconsin. I've kept my attendance quite regular and my routine varied, in doing so it has helped me drop nearly 35 lbs.(227-195) since joining. In my time at this gym, many of those huffing and puffing on Jan. 1 I've only seen a handful of times and most likely will continue.

Excellent John.  cooldude

Changing my diet (not radically, but nutritionally, and knocking out sugar and most carbs) and walking 2-3 miles in my neighborhood nearly every day (Winter too), and working outdoors nearly every day for one year, and I'm down 20-25lbs.  Feel better, sleep better, poop better, with better attitude and endurance, and old chronic knee, ankle, hip pains have disappeared.

I had to buy some new pants though.  The loss was gradual (and not really my goal), but at some point even the inside holes in my belts were too loose and my pants were falling down).  A buddy of mine asked if I could afford some new pants, and I laughed and said I could (and did).

I've gained a couple back from Winter indoor living, but that's OK, I won't be gaining 20-25 again.

Jess, the winter weather has always caused my belt to tighten a tad...usually 2-3lbs. which I guess isn't so bad. I was pleased to see the holidays didn't have a huge effect.

John...no six packs in this house unless it happens to be soft drinks. I like to mix a tad of sugar & caffeine free Squirt with my small bit of OJ used to wash down my morning meds, usually less than 2" in one of those infamous red plastic drinking cups. And, I usually have that before fixing b'fast. Just so you'll know, my personal 6-pack has a layer of padded protection...kinda like most past college age. It has worked quite well for many decades so I have no plans to change it.  Wink

Precisely why I won't start, I'm no quitter..................  Wink

I went to our gym on New Years morning around 0830.  Only 2 of us there for over 20 minutes, then folks slowly started coming in.  I like the mornings workouts cause the low amount of members.   Though have talked a different individual who comes in at 4 in the morning, he said he would be alone for a half hour but around 4:30 it would get crowed.  Didn't know anything before 7 existed anymore since I retired 14 years ago.    2funny

And YES I do have a sixpack, it's just still in the package.

good for you John on the weight loss and staying fit.  Now gotta loose 30-50lbs. myself pushing 290 need to be 250ish or so.  NO way will drop below 230 ever again unless get sick somehow but every little bit helps.  I have stopped buying apple and orange juice and drinking more water, less chips as well, but exercising is tough with 2 bad hips needing replacing past 3 years not being done yet since Drs. want me to loose weight first.  Pretty sure most 75 year olds can walk better and longer distances than I can right now.

2023 has been a struggle for me somedays better than others, but if out and about on my feet more than 1 hour at a time,  I have to sit down my hips are in severe pain.   As soon as I sit down the pressure relief is 99% instantly gone off my bad hips.   I am going to call other drs. who will do both hip replacements one after another in 2024 regardless of my excess weight I hope, is time.

Billion dollar business idea:

Rent gym equipment and open a gym on January 1st, have it be a gym on the 1st and after the 2nd week of January start swapping out the gym equipment with comfy chairs and couches until by the end of January it's a wine bar.

Next year, January first, repeat...
