Burt Munro, they don't make men like him anymore.
He was a Trail Blazer against all the odds and still holds some world records for a bike that size and
class.
Saw it twice, bought the DVD and loaned it to all my friends who wanted to watch it.
Got a picture of Burt in his garage, in my bike barn, look at it often and wonder what urged him to
pursue his dreams of speed at Bonneville.
A world away from his own.
But I should not be surprised, America has been blessed with great people for a few centuries now.
Let's keep the ball rolling.

If you like the movie, you should read the book. The book is titled One Good Run. Make the movie kinda pale. Burt Monroe was quite a character.

I have the DVD and that book. And my wife and I have watched that movie at least a dozen times,...and it never gets old.
Over the last several years I've started collecting M/C movies, documentaries, and books about bikes and the people that ride them. There are more books on old motorcycles and bikers than you can ever imagine.
This last Christmas, my wife got me four new DVD documentaries. For my birthday she got me the "Long Way Down" series and she also gave me the previous series the "Long Way Round". A great set of documentaries if you have a lot of time on your hands.
My wife also gave me the complere "Life is a Road" series signed by Daniel Meyer.
I also collect books and movies about the daring days of "Board Track Racing" and pioneers like "Cannonball Baker", "Joe Petrali", and "Ed Kretz". I also have a signed set of books by "Sonny Barger"

This threat begs the question; What's the known (documented) fasted top-end speed on a Valk? Both modified and unmodified? Anyone know? ('my' fastest, with me weighing in at just under 400 lbs, my bride at 145 ish (sorry babe) and all the gear stacked on for a weekend trip for a total weight on the bike of over 600 lbs, is; 110 mph. And there was PLENTY of go juice left, but we were on a northern Michigan 2-lane in late summer. It was a nice staright-a-way between two big hills, so me and my buddie, hammered it down into the vally. We the trees started getting thick along the side of the road again, we backed off. We 'cruised at 110 through the entire vally. I can't say for sure how fast she would have went, but I'm guessing EASILY 125, maybe higher. She really did have a lot left on the RPM. So, what's YOUR fastest run????????

http://www.timskelton.com/valkyrie/gen_interest/bonnevalk.htm It really puts in perspective, of how smart Monro was ? 1920 bike, no supercharger, 2 cylinders, no NOS, and spoke rims . no Dyno runs, no fuel injection, no computer.
