Don't threaten me with a good time

Greeneville, TN

« on: February 06, 2024, 03:53:49 AM »

62 yo. Past week hits hard with Carl Weathers now Toby Keith.

TK was a USO touring freak. Had the chance to see him in Kandahar and Jalalabad Afghanistan in 2008. Always was one to perform for the troops. High respect for the guy and for his music.

Rest in Peace Toby.   Maybe we will meet again.

You were an excellent American and a great singer/musician.  Wife and I had the pleasure of seeing him at a concert some years back.   We did enjoy the experience.

Again Rest in Peace Toby.

He seemed to have a great attitude, and even though he was a shell of his former self, I though he was going to recover. Nobody is promised tomorrow.

I liked his music and voice, especially liked his song "Don't let the old man in!"  Saw him in an interview done a short time ago, he was a shadow of the Toby we all knew.

I don't know much about the man except he supported our troops and played some good music.
He will be missed.

While I was never a fan, I wished him no ill will....

However, stumbled on this performance from last year. He knew what was coming.

This was, to me, quite powerful, and gained a ton of respect from me at least...

That  was  the  song he wrote  for  Clint and  his  movie  "The  Mule"
I saw  the  interview of  how   he  came  about the  song.
And  it was  Clint not  what was  coming  for  him..
At a  celebrity Golf  thing that Clint puts  on .
Clint had  said   his  BD  was  coming up and  Toby said  what  are  ya  going to do.
He  said  I have  to go to Gorgia and  work on the  film..
Toby ask what do you do  to keep going ?
Clint said   do something  everyday, always  move, and  don't let the old  man  in ..
So it really was  Clint that  gave  Toby the  spark to write  the  song.

So now  you Know  the  rest of  the  story , truth be  known..

It starts  around 1:56

When my son was a teenager he met Toby Keith.

Toby invited him onto his tour bus talked with him for awhile and gave him a personally autographed CD.

He was one of the good ones for sure!

saw recently most of his dan rather interview from about 10 years ago.  he shot from the hip and told it the way it is and if anyone not like it,  did not bother him.  Like he got grief for playing for both republicans and democrats thru his career whether it be george bush or Obama, he did NOT take sides was an independent did it because he was asked to play for them, NOT taking either side, as it should be.

Lots of great patriotic and funny songs in his day, he was one of the good ones for sure.  RIP...   darn cancer
