Trying to get set up to start laying tile in my basement bathroom, when the wife comes down and says guess what. The washing machine has stopped mid cycle, tried a couple of quick fixes and no luck. So we start emptying the water out of the tub so as to get the clothes out till I find a fix. Had about a 3 gallon bucket of water to dump so I headed out through the garage and as soon as I take one step I see a pool of water on the garage floor, 20’ from the garage door. I look up and see wet spot on the ceiling, go up in the attic and find the attic flooring wet above where the ceiling is wet!

Here’s the zinger, I just had $34,000 of roof gutter and flashing work done! I’m really sick of having to deal with this company, it’s been one thing after another. But there is a silver (gold) lining to the situation, I’m still holding $26,000 of their money due to call backs and incidental damages done while the work was being performed. They had already offered me a $500 discount due to the incidentals which I had not accepted and now this. At least I feel somewhat in the drivers seat on this one at least.

Oh, and no magic  on my part, the washing machine is working again. Wife  smitten

Might be a little late but take video and photos. Try to incorporate some way of depicting (close up shots, some sort of measuring device, etc ) the amount of water and the extent of any damage.

Sorry to hear it’s such a nightmarish situation. Good luck drying out and getting stuff resolved.

Have about a dozen pics and have already texted to a company representative. It’s going to be interesting.

Cant believe they let you get that far ahead of them. So many times they want up front money.

I can’t believe that I gave them $8,600.00 up front on signing the contract! First time in 71 years I’ve ever done that, but I know things have changed a lot over my lifetime. Also helpful is I’ve always done most of my work myself.

"I just had $34,000 of roof gutter and flashing work done!"

Is that 34k for re-roof, gutter and flashing?

If it's a re-roof, most problems I see is flashing is never done correctly, where the roof ends into a wall, or butts up to a chimney.

The siding should be removed and new flashing installed. Few roofers take the time to do so and play the averages the old will not leak.

Don't know if that's your situation.

You are holding advantage with the $$ hold back. cooldude

It’s in a valley and flashing is very likely a culprit , but no siding can come off it’s brick.

See the wet spot on the brick just below the gutter, same location where the water entered the back wall of the garage.

WAY back in the 70s the 1st house we bought-1st XYL-had siding installed and part of the contract was a thorough COMPLETE debris cleanup BEFORE I signed completion order AND final payment and my Bank at that time had the final $s held for the job. It took 4 or 5 call backs on their part BEFORE 1st XYL and I were happy with the cleanup. They TRIED a pass thru for extra money because of the call backs and I REFUSED to pay ++++ ANYONE that called about that company I told then WHAT Exactly had transpired and I could NOT in good conscience give that company a Good review. Had at least 2 little ones at that time that Enjoyed outside Winter and Summer and Adults or Children did NOT need to be cut on scrap metal or old nails. RIDE SAFE.

dang water during say a heavy windy rain storm can get in anywhere.  had my roof done like 13 years ago now and all was fine, but like 5 years ago now the major rainstorm had water coming in from my bathroom ceiling vent fan on the roof, running down into my wall, thru the wall joist all the way into my basement ceiling and made a puddle on the basement floor.  could not believe that happened had to get a new ceiling vent exhaust and tar the heck outta it all around and replace a few shingles all around the new vent just in case was the shingles near the plastic roof vent.   Why heavy rain after all those years of NON leaking all of a sudden happening remains a mystery to me.
