Looks like it’s going to be quite the process and your back holds out.

Good luck and hope it comes out great.  cooldude

We had a wild guy in HS with a 305 Super Hawk.  Had some really loud megaphone exhaust and pissed off all the school authorities.  He later traded up to a Sportster with straight pipes.   Grin

Wasn't the only difference between the standard and scrambler upraised pipes (to burn your leg)?

Scramblers were considered trail bikes (packed trails), not dirt bikes, therefore the raised pipes.  They also had a different tooth or three on the rear sprocket. They were found with courser tread on the tires , front and rear.
Lots of other differences including a taller front tire and handle bars on the later CL's.

I'm still learning about these bikes.  Getting the engine out the way that I did was stupid.  When I had my CB750, I just laid the bike over on some furniture pads on the garage floor, unbolted the engine and lifted the frame off of it.  That would have been the right thing to do here also.  My head thinks I'm still 17 but my back knows better!

The exhaust I say is not a Scrambler exhaust.  The designation Scrambler had a high rise dual exhaust on the right side.  It was a real thigh burner for the girlfriend.  I had one for several years.

Those pipes you removed looked a bit like those you'd se on an English vertical twin. My Brother had a 66 305 Scrambler that I actually got to ride. Quite peppy for the day with ONLY 305 CCs! Yuppers the one on yer lift table DO bring back some very fond memories. RIDE SAFE.

Here’s my 1971 SL125. I bought this bike last year with 1800 miles on it. It sat for at least 20 years. So it just needed a good cleaning. It’s all original paint. Runs great up till 50 mph. It has 12HP and I use every one of them.

My older cousin bought the same 305 brand new.

The last time we talked, which unfortunately was at his Mom's funeral, he told me he just sold it for $1800.00.

I wish I had known. It was probably mint.
