This YouTube site has a lot of interesting vids.

This one on Destroyer's just came out and is very cool.

Not being ex-military, I never understood the differences in the battle support type ships.

If you're into the USN and it's weapon systems, you'll like this.

cooldude Pretty cool Bill. Got me thinking about how old I am, and how outdated our weapons were. My job on ship was Data Systems Technician. But my General Quarters job was as ammunition loader for our aft gun. Nothing automatic about it. 2 guys were in the compartment handing out the shells to 2 guys out by the gun, who would load them on the gun. Pretty physical job. The guys in the ammo compartment would be drenched in sweat by the time the exercise was over. It was so hot in there with no air flow. We had 2 guns, one fore and aft. And 2 ASROC missile launchers, also fore and aft. You can see my gun in this photo.

My nephew is on the Aircraft Carrier the Abraham Lincoln. We are going to go out on the ship for “family day” here in a couple months. I’m really looking forward to see how he’s doing, and show Brenda what it was like on board.

U S S Yorktown about every 3 days would bring the Destroyers and the Destroyer Escorts alongside for an UNREP-under way replenishment mostly for N S F O-Navy Standard Fuel Oil. And sometimes they'd need some food stares too. Course if a Destroyer or D E recovered Air Crew I seem to recall it was 10 gallons of ice cream per aircrew member!  Wink I also remember seeing 4 or 5 feet of air Under the bow of these smaller Man-o-Wars then see 4 or 5 feet of water Over the bow! I've also felt Yorktown roll and buck during a storm-typhon and I NEVER Once suffered from motion sickness. Plenty of others did and I recall the sick smell lingering for a couple days after a severe storm. Looking back thru the years I KNOW I will NEVER work the flight deck again in this life! The Flight Deck of an Aircraft Carrier IS a Young Persons Job!  cooldude RIDE SAFE.

I was on the USS Wasp For almost a full year.  When at sea, the Tanker coming along side to refuel us was always a thing to watch.

One image showing the Tanker refueling the Wasp and Destroyer (AKA Tin Can) on the other side of the Tanker.  Took some coordination.

And the sailors on the Tin Cans got a lot wetter than the sailors on the USS Wasp.  But in this image we are providing some fuel from the Wasp to the Tin Can.  The main deck is under the water line in this shot.

Flight deck ops I have always envisioned as an almost deadly ballet. You have to be good very good to make it work.
