Same my nautical friend... I REALLY can't afford this trip, it's a totally irresponsible thing for me to do right now.

...I'm doing it anyway...

Need this trip more than I can put into words. Itching for the minute I can put my work phone down, hop on the bike (Alas, the 'Wing not the Valk, but a bike) and point it north!

This, I can relate to.
Just bought a new home (new to us) and there's lots of things she wants changed in addition to getting that new shop built.   It all takes money for material and some help now and then.   Some things are just going to have to wait, my Fat Ladies need some exercise and my soul needs some wind therapy along with seeing old and meeting new friends.   See ya there!

Are rooms still available? I didn't know if I'd have the time open until now, and don't want to register only to find out the hotel is full.

I spoke with the hotel this afternoon and they added a few rooms to our room block.  We do still have rooms and they will give you our discounted rate!  When you call the hotel, ask for the front desk, as you will need to make the reservation with them.  Do not say reservations, as that will take you to the call center and you need to speak with the front desk.  Be sure to indicate that you are with the VRCC

I was just looking at our Inzane room reservation and it brought up a couple questions. First, hotels there have a 7% rate PLUS a normal 5% state sales tax, giving a total of 12% tax on top of the room charge of $129/day. That comes to an additional $77.40 for the week. I also was told at the time of registration there was an additional 20% for incidentals, not sure what that's supposed to mean but would bring our total for the five days to just over $850. I hope I'm wrong but if not...then I'm out.

Brian, same figure as mine but they'll want that extra 20% up front to keep from getting stiffed on unpaid movies, phone, laundry, etc. upon check out. Supposedly it gets refunded upon check out if not used but I've been stiffed on that very thing more often than not...the hotel staff used some lame reason for not refunding and since I had already paid up front I was stuck with it.

I am not attending but did have reservations at ground zero that I canceled early.
I then thought maybe I might attend but camp at the city campground for the week.....the campground called and refunded my deposit because of flooding in the area.

Well....sorry to say it looks like I am out of Inzane.   Was really looking forward to going.  Plan was My wife and I were going from Tomball Tx to Onalaska Tx ( about 90 miles in the right direction towards Inzane) to stay with friends and participate in their "garage sale" Friday and Saturday.  I was leaving from Onalaska Sunday morning early for Inzane.   So I packed my bike and loaded our garage sale items in my truck and we cranked up to leave our driveway.   I put the kickstand up and when I put the Valkyrie in gear it died.   I looked down and the kickstand was down.   I put the kickstand back up and discovered it was just flopping around and I looked under the bike and the spring is laying on the ground.   The bolt that is threaded into the frame that holds the spring in place has sheered off at the frame.   That bolt also holds the kickstand kill switch in place.   Got on the phone and two Houston Honda dealers said only one of those specialty bolts is in Texas about 100 miles away.   Gonna have to cancel my trip.   Yes I could jumper the kill switch on the kickstand but would still have to wrestle with a floppy kickstand for about 2,500 miles.    Pur the bike back in the garage and came with tge wife to our garage sale in Onalaska.   Maybe next year.   Will be cancelling my room at tge hotel this evening.  Yall have fun.

I've had to do similar.  Actually used some pliable wire I had in the bags just for the possibility.  Worked in a pinch, but you always have the unnerving thought of the side stand digging into the pavement in the back of your mind-- at least I did!  Probably not the best way to head off on a road trip.

You will be missed, I hope you can find a fix and make it anyway, but that's not something to mess around with... Waaaaaaay back in the day of the VSG we lost a rider when he chose to rode home with a floppy kickstand and didn't secure it, went into a right hand sweeper, stand flopped down, into a tight left and it bit and leveraged the bike up and off the wheel... He passed, his wife woke up a few days later... (Chilipepper was his handle as I recall)

...but on the happier side (Now that I've been a total Debbie Downer) Blake and I are now in our first state for the night and on our way..... Signing off from Atoka OK, off to Smithville MO tomorrow...

If you do a search..... Owners have posted that a hardened M6 bolt or cap screw can be used as a substitute for the spring stud.  If I recall, they used a couple of locknuts, too.  My bike got the Honda replacement part, so I have no personal experience or recommendation.  Here is an example:

https://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,119578.0.html

It might be something to look into as the hardware should be easy to obtain.

Havent looked yet but probly the broken bolt is broke off even with the frame.  Now to get the old bolt out i assume you have to drill it and use an easy out.  Can you get a drill in line with the bolt to drill?

Seems I remember the OEM bolt has some thread showing at the top and you can remove it with needle nose pliers.

If not, once the bolt head is broken off, the threaded shaft has no torque on it and should come out relatively easy.

I mcgivered one with a long 6mil bolt I rummaged out of a nut and bolt stash my nephew had, when I was in NC visiting. I also was able to find the spring.

It held for the rest of the trip.

Another time, my buddy broke his and we used the bungie cord like Oss.

Honda put a grippy lockout on the "up" side of the stud bolt.  Loosening the nut brought the broken piece with it.  Couldn't have been easier.

Yeah, it's been 11 years since I broke one of those. When I replaced the special bolt, I safety wired the spring to the mounting area, so if it broke again, hopefully, the spring isn't lost.  Luckily, I haven't had to test my plan.

I carry a spare bolt whenever I'm overnighting on a Valk
