Lamentable ‘Lucy’ Came Calling… Again…

I'm feeling the urge to write something, but I can't seem to come up with any topic that pulls me in its direction. When in doubt, though, as is very much the case right now, I can almost always resort to recent events for inspiration... Those aren't always desirable points to ponder, however, so sometimes, like with this piece for example, it’s entirely possible I might not actually post the renderings... although… It will be a very real aspect of life on the road.

The most prominent recent occurrence just so happens to be a particularly unpleasant topic, but since I have no other ideas, I suppose it'll have to suffice for the time being. And that event does suggest a 'topic' for this piece after all... (I’ve just gone back and added it.)

That very undesirable 'gal' with whom I've had a most distasteful but fortunately only intermittent relationship over recent years still insists upon intruding from time to time upon my otherwise fantastic journey of discovery... My 'Vision Quest', as it has been called by some.

It all started because of a life-long condition of mine... I happen to love bacon! That is not a well-kept secret at all, not surprisingly, as nearly everybody who knows this long rider also knows beyond any doubt of his affection for that special delicacy. So much so, in fact, that it is common for a sizzling slab of seared sliced swine to be made available without even a request. Such was the case just last week...

The trigger this time began with a photo of some biscuits 'n sausage gravy, ironically, and a boast that my friend's significant other had pert' near perfected the making of that delightful food entree. Well, just like with Pavlov's dog, this predictable connoisseur had the easily expected reaction... Within a few days, he appeared at this friend's door with an offer to confirm/affirm the validity of Big Wolf's bodacious brag. And so, it came to pass…

On the morning of the second day, happily, at least at first, the hostess delivered an alternative meat item for variety’s sake in a major way, as she had prepared a large serving of… that palate pleasing pig part so eagerly yearned for even more than the biscuits ‘n gravy.

Yep, CB is always most generous in her thoughtful provision of that treat, and almost always without mention having ever been made… It’s just one of those understood facts of life, you see… The sun will rise in the east each new day, and… DDT (12) would enjoy being fed some bacon! He was… He overdid it with consumption, too…

I don’t think it’s the bacon itself that produces the mischief; rather, it’s actually more likely the associated grease that is an inevitable, inescapable byproduct and thereby the real culprit. If grease isn’t meticulously removed before serving, then… Lucy (as in ‘loosey bowels’) is likely to pop-up soon afterward looking for this easy target. She did, too! I have a growing suspicion that she may be in cahoots with that ‘old man’…

Normally she arrives with a purse, sometimes even an overnight bag… This time she apparently had with her a couple of suitcases, as well! She lingered for four miserable days, and this non-rider for the duration dared not venture beyond a thirty-foot radius from any porcelain portal into the sewage system… That got really old in a hurry!!!

The siege finally lifted, mercifully, as it always has, and time for reflection followed as it too always does. Was the glass half empty or half full? Normally a clever analogy for describing/differentiating various perspectives, but in this case… a moot point as far as I’m concerned. Either way one is left with a messy, smelly subject and situation, neither of which… oh you know. Nope, only an entirely empty glass would offer any hope at all of producing even the faintest hint of a smile in this particular case IMHO…

Yep, although it was definitely a bit ‘iffy’ for a while, I can now proudly proclaim again that I’m proud to be here!!! I’m even looking forward to going for a ride tomorrow… I just hope I’m not being prematurely bold with my optimism…

DDT (12) … Sorry, Ricky Richardo, but… I do NOT love ‘Lucy’!!!

I'm just not ready to blame the bacon for that four days of misery.

Not long ago while traveling, I had a similar experience.   Hadn't had any bacon in a while so, I'm darn sure that wasn't the culprit.   Regardless, I can  relate to not being able to get too far away for a rest room.

Just hoping everything came out alright.  Wink

Ron,

Yes, I am familiar with 'denial', especially where blaming bacon for anything might be involved. Heck, I've engaged in 'denial' myself many times over the years, because... Like with you, the consequences were so entirely undesirable that... reason and/or logic required suspension.

There can, of course, be other sources that can also trigger an unwanted visit from my nemesis, but grease usually seems to be the common denominator. I'm wary of anything greasy these days, but... Imodium has been recommended to this weary stool visitor, and I have kept that on-hand for some time now. I use it sparingly, but I do get around to employing anything if it can provide relief.

Eventually there comes a time, however, when the list of other alternative potential scoundrels has been winnowed down but actionable decisions still simply have to be made. I haven't abandoned bacon by any means, it's just that I've sort of painted myself into a corner now requiring great caution, strict de-greasing, and careful rationing. Not a great option by any stretch of the imagination, obviously, but it does beat quitting cold-turkey... something I'm not at all sure I could even pull-off anyway.

Yes, everything did come out in the end... in a big way, but out nonetheless...'Lucy' is not my friend...

Bruce, you crack me up with this topic. Sorry "crack" should not have been the word to use. Although that word does imply something.

What is this Bacon?   Grin Grin

Glad you are on the mend.  When we love something that doesnt love us back, it can
create a conundrum.

Perhaps moderation ?   Thank goodness you are not allergic to it, just a bit sensitive maybe

yeah right at least it doesnt put you to sleep

For five days here in Siesta Key, Florida, I had a bitchin headache every evening. Then one morning as I put on my hat
it occurred to me that the dang thing shrunk from being in the ocean and pool every day and it was causing my headaches.  Now I just wear my valkyrie spearfish cap and no issues.   I loved that hat

Don,

Thanks for that 'wise crack'...  Grin Speaking of which, mine was starting to 'smart' a bit towards the end of that episode due to greatly increased usage, come to think of it...  tickedoff Anyway, I appreciate your comments on many of my posts. It's reassuring to have confirmed I'm not shouting into a dark cave not knowing if anybody hears me. I appreciate ya, dude!

What is this Bacon?

Evan,

It's one of the perks of being born into a gentile family...  Roll Eyes Yes, I do appear to be on the mend indeed. Blissful days leisurely moping about with no particular urgency to any of my far less frequent movements towards the necessary room!  Cool

Heck, that ride we were to have made yesterday got postponed until today due to temps, though, and not that other thing. Still a bit more than brisk for this fragile flower, but we're planning to brave the elements anyway and go have lunch with Mitch, perhaps even Laura if she is of a mind... While I am quite confident, I'll still be keeping my fingers crossed anyway!

Oh well... It's never perfect, is it, as there is always something with which to deal...? For sure I'd rather cope with coolish temps, though, than that 'other' thing!!!  Huh?

Tightly fitting apparel can certainly produce more than merely mild discomfort. You are so right about that, my friend! Indeed, everything from undies, to jeans, to shoes/boots, to caps can all turn otherwise joyous occasions into medieval torture sessions when any of those items are too snug but go without appropriate attention!  Angry

DDT (12)

P.S. I've decided to take my 'nap' chair along on the ride today... You know, just in case...

Bruce, have you tried taking digestive enzymes to help digest the fat? Another thing that will help is a very good probiotic.. those two things may keep Lucy at bay and you can once again enjoy.

Bret,

Off the top of my head, those sound like just the sort of things I need to try! I will as soon as I go to a store carrying them. The thought of continuing with those wonderful days of 'swine and roses' certainly does appeal to this guy who for most of his life wasn't nearly careful or thoughtful enough about what he was ingesting... It's a wonder I don't have any real problems with eating nowadays! I'll also continue with my long-standing practices of moderation and 'heavy' body build avoidance... I appreciate your suggestions! Many of your posts clearly point out that you have a very good grasp of health issues and healthy habits, so any advice from you gets my attention... Thanks again!!!   cooldude

Thank you, and you're very welcome, Bruce. Hope you have some success with it  cooldude

We have a bit of power to help ourselves in small ways with health enhancers, all we need do is seek them out to solve problems.. then implement.
