Over the weekend I finally got my Valkyrie out of the shop!  Made a 90 mile ride back from Corinth, MS on saturday afternoon in 35 degree weather.  That may be a breeze for you northern folks, but for a southern boy like myself that was a monumental task.  It was well worth the cold though.  It was my first long ride on the Valkyrie, and my first ride that it was running properly.  I now understand the addictive nature of these bikes more than ever.

Unfortunately I made the ride with only one mirror because the previous owner broke the threaded mounting spot halfway off the master cylinder, and I can't bring myself to get a new master cylinder when the one I have is working beautifully.  I got a mirror mount clamp I can place next to the master cylinder that sadly only takes harley sized mirrors.  Guess I'll have to borrow a mirror off the ex-wife's collection of harley accessories until I can either justify buying a new master cylinder or buy another clamp and a set of harley mirrors.  The cheapest I've found a master cylinder is around 80 bucks.

I think the rubber seal around the radiator cap is going bad too, there's a very slow leak, just a few drops coming out, that I discovered after the ride.  My shorter ride the next day did not seem to produce a leak.

I am unbelievably excited about the experience the Valkyrie has to offer.  I think I will probably do Dragon's Tail this summer some time.  I'll probably do a trip to the Florida panhandle as well.  I think my next project for the bike will be to find an interstate tank for it so I can put a fuel gauge on.  I ran out of gas on my short ride the second day.  Luckily I was within pushing distance of a gas pump.  You guys with standard tanks, how many miles do you usually get out of a full tank?

It's great to get back in the saddle, isn't it?!

35 is plenty cold.  Cold enough to not do it again!

I fill my Standard tank to the brim, ride like an old man, and usually hit reserve in the 140-150 mile range.  I've gone shorter and farther, but those were the exceptions.

YMMV 2funny

Couple of offerings for you to look into.

The tabs of the radiator cap may help to seal the cap better if you tweak on 'em just a tad.  There's a tiny set screw on the outside of the cap to secure it... loosen that screw before you go hogging on the cap to twist it off.

Kuryakyn used to offer an adapter for mirror mounts, to convert between Harley and Metric threads.  Don't know whether they still do though.

Standard tank cobra exh. and the six degree wheel. Mixed riding fast/kind of fast and some two up. The kind of fast happens when the carbon based rev. limiter is on the back. I have to hit reserve at 125 to 130 miles every tank.

Pinwall has plenty of front brake master cylinders for cheap ($25 or less)... only clutch master cylinder I see from Pinwall is currently
on bid, it's still below $30...

Do you live in Mississippi?  Have you met your state rep, Warlock?  He's an excellent rider/mechanic, we ride with him, Bird, Moonshine, Marty (X-Ring), Monte and Lee, Magoo, Punisher....they can all show you some great roads in Mississippi.

I live in Tennessee, Memphis actually, so I'm close to Mississippi.  I ride into Mississippi pretty frequently.
