I have heard (and googled) the Great River Road and also Waterfall Tours.
You might check those out.

I have a “Visitors Guide” for Iowa.  I’ll have it with me if you want to check it out.

Just did a search and this is what it said

The Bridges of Madison County location: scattering the ashes: The Roseman Bridge, Winterset, Iowa.

Madison County is a real district of Iowa (it’s the birthplace of John Wayne), and the bridges are for real too. You’ll find them in the area of Winterset, the town Francesca Johnson (Meryl Streep) visits to buy her new frock, and where scarlet woman Lucy is ostracised by the locals.

Madison County is about 230 miles from Dubuque but There are hills, great rides and quiet little country towns all around Dubuque.  One will have no trouble finding good places to ride.

There is a road which begins on the north side of Dubuque. It goes by many "names".

It is County road C9Y. Also known as Sherrill Road (to town of Sherrill) then "Balltown Road" (to the town of Balltown) and continues north as C9Y to Hwy. 52 which then continues north. (assuming you are going north). All of this, and even more roads are under the "Great River Road" designation. Signs are posted along the way that say "Great River Road". Views are spectacular in places. The overlook north of Balltown is exceptional. Probably see 30 miles into Wisconsin looking over the Mississippi.

The "Great River Road" series of roads starts well south of Dubuque and it is well worth going south of Dubuque on it to LeClaire just north of Davenport. Gets kinda busy from Davenport going south. More industrial than scenic.

You'll find no shortage of fun roads on the Illinois and Wisconsin side too.

My friend suggested to me a "go to place" to visit in Savannah, IL called Poppy's, a really popular Biker Bar - food and band. Not far from Dubuque and a nice ride to get there.  coolsmiley

Great all you can eat old time restaurant in Balltown with a lot of history.
It burn down a number of years back then rebuilt it only to have it burn down the next year and rebuilt it again, but it still looks like a 100 year-old biulding

Yes, the restaurant that you speak of is Breitbach's Country Dining in Balltown. Good place. Been there two or three times. Buffet is great. BUT they are closed on Monday, Tuesday, and Wed. Checked it out. Planning on going there myself. Maybe Thursday lunch.
