Does anyone have a technique to remove/clean melted plastic from the chrome exhaust pipe? A couple of days ago, the bag used in the garment cleaning industry laid against one of my hot pipes. I tried to peel it off after the bike cooled, but no go. Tried gently scraping when the pipe was hot, no go. I don’t want to get after it with a new single edge razor blade.
Looking for some advice.
Thanks.

Years ago I got a Walmart bag melted on one, and can't remember what I did.  Except it was tedious to avoid scratching.

And from the web:

Acetone is the best choice.  Make sure you let the exhaust cool down before you apply though. then scrub it off with steel wool.  Steel wool???? (maybe OOOO, but seems risky)

The best thing you can use to get plastic or rubber off your pipes from being melted is a MAGIC ERASER. just wet it and rub off the melted mess.

I think this is the best bet:  Oven Cleaner on a damp rag (DO NOT get it on paint) Spray on Rag (While away from the bike) wipe pipe while it is still hot.  EasyOff oven cleaner and a nylon spatula to scrap it off should work.

Acetone or Very fine wire wool to get the plastic off then solvol autosol metal polish to get the fine scratches from the wire wool out.

I use an old copper penny to scrape burnt boot rubber off the exhaust.  Pre 1982 I believe.  It's tedious but doesn't scratch the chrome.

WD40 and the penny method sounds good to me and a ball of aluminium foil and WD40 for finishing. Also awesome tar and rust on chrome removal. I used a single edge razor blade but it did leave small marring as I'd say the nickel content in SS is a tad harsh thus my vote for the "penny" scraper. Maybe even a brass putty knife will work? Yes WD40 is quite a cleaner for filth on MC wheels and any clear coated parts but be sure to soak it good onto a microfiber towel. Life is good!

I just use Goof Off. Soak a soft rag and rub it out, might take a bit of elbow grease if a big spot but doesn't scratch anything.

I recently learned that you can polish chrome (or even glass) with grade 0000 steel wool. It's the finest grade available. I used it with some chrome polish to get the final bits of burnt plastic off of my headers. Works on rims too.

EZ-Off oven cleaner. If it doesn't take it off cold, heat the pipes up and it will. Don't get any on your paint.
