Stude31 and I just missed riding the ferry right after the visit to the Field of Dreams. We were sitting in the ferry line talking to a gent in a pickup who was also waiting. The ferry had just left for the IOWA side. While chatting with the gent in the truck, I noticed the ferry heading into the black cloud I had been staring at for the past 10 minutes. I told Stude31 "I don't think it is a good idea to ride the ferry today". The ferry disappeared into the wall of rain about 2 miles from us.
We turned around and headed South away from the storm. We were forced to head West for a bit and the leading edge of the storm caught us. The straight line winds from the rain cooled air was gusting around 45-50 MPH as a cross wind to us!! There were leaves and small twigs floating around in the air along with much of the dust from the farms on that side of the road. We were talking in our Bluetooth units and Stude31 said.... "If it gets too bad, we will just wait it out in one of these farmer's barns with the tractors. It was very tough riding with that wind coming from our right. About that time we again headed South and missed the rain all together.
We made it back to the Holiday Inn with about 30 raindrops before heading into the bottom level parking garage.
A LARGE time was had by all.
