Sometimes, all the time, never? The 4th is around the corner, and my neighbor put up some red, white and blue bunting under a couple windows. I have a nice cotton bunting hand stitched 3 X 5 flag (on a portable pole), that goes up outside for the usual holidays, but it's not all weather, seen better days (but not defaced), and I've never had a place to put one in nighttime lighting (as required) full time. I got the old guy out this morning and gave it a gentle wash which improved but didn't cure it entirely. Repaired the pole and the mount. I had to dig the mount out of a giant old oak on my driveway where I always flew it. But my 8'5" Van now sits right in front of that location. Then I wandered all over my corner lot looking for a new location. The best place was right on the front peak of my roof on the flashing (3-level split, low angle roofs, walk right up to the high roof). So up I went with drill, torpedo level, screws, washers and mount, and rock solid. Best of all, it's above the 70 watt forced sodium lamp on the front of my house, which runs all night. I can't tell you why I never thought of this before (but I still have to see if the flag is lit enough to call lit, I think it will be). But I need a new flag. The cotton one is heavy and tends to wrap the pole (I think unlike lighter ones) (and I'm not enthusiastic about going up there to unwrap it often), it's not all weather, and pretty vintage. But I don't want a plastic looking one with painted colors. I've searched and they sell all weather in stitched stars and stripes of polyester, that should be lighter (esp wet), and not wrap the pole as much/easily. I like Amazon, but I want to look before I buy, so a shopping I will go.

Every day dawn to dusk.
It’s a 3x5 flag, it’s not on a traditional flag pole but one of those house mounts next to my front steps on a 4x4 post.
I use Valley Forge flags. They say Made in USA on them but I keep seeing another Made in the USA flag company on tv but I can’t remember the name, I should really write stuff down sometimes.
Been interested in a traditional flag pole for the yard and called the township a couple weeks back, apparently there is no height restriction and only a 15’ setback from street requirement. Before I do anything I’m going to have to get the no height restriction in writing. My house is 16’6” to the ridge and the front lawn slopes down toward the street so I think a 20’ or 25’ would be good.

I have to admit these Valley Forge flags are pretty darn good, I usually get almost 2 years of daily use out of them and not a lot of fading for being in direct sun all day. I’ll say this though, there’s nothing like the look and feel of a brand new one out of the box. It certainly “POPS”.

That will probably be my next "goto" place for a new flag. Flag Store USA and US Flag Supply are places I have used in the past. Current flag is a 3'x5' flag on a pole in the front yard. Stays up unless we have some very severe winds forecast. On my third or fourth flag in 12 years. Lighten is two lighten the ground and a light on the top of the flag pole. All solar charged battery powered

I received a very nicely folded flag sewn stars very nice material.. from the Funeral parlor. Because Don was a veteran .. The flag is displayed on our dresser in our bedroom.. In my spare time I need to make a nice wooden holder for it , and glass . It's wrapped in saran wrap right now .To keep it from getting dusty.. Woodstove..

Well, a bit of research, and off to Costco for a Valley Forge all American polyester all weather, all stitched stars and stripes, and nice 1-inch pole with cap and HD mount. What they don't tell you in the ads is that it is attached to the pole with "spinner mounts" so it can't wrap the pole. This is good on a 45 degree mount to house (or something) (which I'm doing), but unneeded on a straight up pole mount. I hit the door at Costco to show my ID and ask where I can find flags, and the buy laughs and says "right behind me," and there they were. The link to Amazon below is the same flag, for $5 dollars cheaper than Costco ($34), but no shipping or wait time for delivery. https://www.amazon.com/100-Made-USA-Perma-Nyl-Patriotic/dp/B0007KP9QI/ref=sr_1_5?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.BTp95POdV4rTAjY6o0hzQplEgQKKBPcdsvGeqtEEU7R_ggwh2yJ7GnOkyzsZVypSm2SgKWJnR-0a2IRDkqcTp3DKhrZbxPmq-7Olc8U9MpWKTAWG8uALK0VEJO_hMH5FgomeLx4Wd67x-RvcbHy3AtDLD8f-lXz_8Q2l83sXyCc_tBfcNcv-l3z2ivtXWoWMFp38JEOMpehtUsxGEimOAcKy1qrLENDnFFH3QlPjp-z6HGMYt5Wjfkoafi84xgFp3O9UVjX9FNyY559NeghfZYdZQrzQNlyUqWlo7G__PgU.NY6Jo8sJr7DTsBzAmjtfWfFdZMnQYCWoyXsoUTqffjo&dib_tag=se&hvadid=409942996545&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9008188&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=b&hvrand=7414485309061685712&hvtargid=kwd-18497780&hydadcr=24657_11410751&keywords=valley+forge+flags&qid=1719349088&sr=8-5So I get it home and the flag is all wrinkly, so I decide to iron it (warm for polyester). I have not used my iron and board since the day I retired 14 years ago. It was a chore getting the board out from behind the basement frig, but I could not find my iron anywhere (more hiding stuff from myself). I had to iron in the military and for USDVA, and I dislike it greatly. I even have one of those little travel irons (used in USAF travel), but I couldn't find that one either. I finally found the big one shoved behind wall storage (and it still works). It's hot full sun on the roof now, so it goes up tomorrow morning. Tonight, I see if my lighting is adequate for full time flying. The mount is completely different for a one inch pole (and much sturdier) so my work on the roof today was just a dry run (and has to come off). The old pole is wobbling all over in today's wind, so I'll be happy for the sturdier setup. I enjoy when a plan comes together. Right click and hit view image.

When we moved into our current home in 1991 it had a flag pole in the front yard. A traditional pole with a rope and pulley. It wasn’t a very good one actually cheep. I mounted a low voltage flood light to the pole. Eventually the wind took its toll, bent and rusted. Wife found an aluminum one that collapses into itself and has a place for a second flag below the top flag. We don’t fly a second flag so that position is for a lowered / half mast. There now is a low voltage LED flood light attached to the pole. We use nylon 3x5 flags as the cotton ones weigh to much when wet.

Some organizations will send you a flag if you make a small contribution. For instance, if you give $10 to the USO you'll get a 3' x 5' flag.

The new and improved flag and pole are up. The larger mount gave me some trouble, so I used bigger screws. Even with the spinner flag-to-pole mounts, gentle wind still wraps the pole, but I believe it will shake back out with better breeze. And I put the old one back up on a tree in my back yard. I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy. And I watered the heck out of everything.

I ordered two new Vallley Forge flags after your post as I realized a few of mine were showing age.

Fishguy, you know I just grabbed that photo off the web, it's not my barn (wish it was).
Those Valley Forge Flags are top quality. My new one is over my (nighttime) house light, so it will be up 24 X 7 from now on).
