So Mike, where did your 1000 mile loop go?

I was just down in NC and TN two weeks ago.

(I remember hearing Joe say 'The Dragon' was too commercial and too crowded.  He was not wrong.  I  crossed it off my bucket list, but won't be back.  The road is brand new and nice, but man it's crowded with bikes and cars and tourists.)

I met Joe at a place that was equidistant from our houses. He came through
the dragon to the meetup place.

We went on a bunch of curvy roads. First night in Chimney Rock. Then Marion,
and then Abingdon. We found a road that goes through Saltville between
Abingdon and 16 that's pretty good.

Since you chartered the OF.F.M.R.C we were feeling abandoned since
you weren't along for the ride...

Tracy we were talking about how close we were to you. Our trip didn't
have an element of planning... Punisher just happened (!) to be in
Asheville when we were in Chimney Rock...

Not sure what road you found.

SR 91 might have been part of it.

I finally got to ride this section of SR 80, in the Saltville area on my way home from this years Hillbilly Ride:

It's not a high speed stretch of road by any means, but there's enough curves to mess with your equilibrium.  Grin

I plan to be on the road the bulk of this summer.

But, there is a lot of good riding in this area, maybe a bunch of us can get together this fall.

Not sure what road you found.

From the Abingdon side it is The Old Saltworks road. Then one or two other numbered
roads until you get to 16. It didn't look very long on the map, but it took a long
time to get from the back-of-the-dragon store to Abingdon using the route...

Joe and I used the 80 that crosses the BRP on the second day. I'd never noticed
the 80 you mentioned...

That HAS to be the roads that LandElephant (Charlie) took us on many years ago.  It was drizzling rain and there were curvy, gravel roads back in the woods.  I am almost sure I heard some banjo music in the background.
