I see the commies in Boston, Ma., have come up with a new law that motorists must give 4 feet clearance around bicycles on the road. Sounds ok, and I’m all for going around them leaving plenty of room.
Last week I was riding Rt. 116 coming east toward Deerfield, and coming the opposite way is a full grown ass man, on his bike, with a huge, pink pool noodle strapped to his bike, extending out to the double yellow line.
Only a matter of time before someone either “ didn’t see it” or hits it on purpose…SMH…..
Rant over…..

In VA, motorists are now required to give police cars a full empty lane when passing (if there is one).
If the cops have a guy pulled over in the breakdown lane, and you're on a 4 lane, you must move over to the outer center lane to pass the police car.  If it's a 2 lane, and a dashed center line (passing allowed), you are supposed to cross the dashed yellow and give the PD a full empty lane when passing (if no cars are oncoming).

I always did this anyway, but now you can get a moving violation if you don't.

I give everyone extra room when passing.  Esp people walking (and emptying) their dogs on the side of the road.  (People who don't pick up their dog sh!t should be sentenced to eat 2 pounds of it.  Second offense, 5 lbs.)

If you are on a two lane road (in VA) and the officer is parked on the rigth side of your lane and there is traffic in the other lane (one coming toward you), are you required to stop and wait for the other lane to clear before passing?  You know, inquiring minds.

Inner city on the "left" side of the river/Purdue, the bike lanes are about 6' wide in some areas. I live about 18 mi. due north thus I ride pretty much all flat rural roads to the West Lafayette thus I encounter packs of "bikers" and they definitely think they own the road. No single file chit. As for the giving right a way to the LEO's regardless if its 2 or multi lane, we been doing this for years except when Illinois (FIP's) drivers passing thru. tickedoff These folk are the worst along with Kentucky drivers. Yes I monitor license plates as its apart of my defensive driving.

Shortly after I Learned HOW to back up a semi trailer one of the other things amongst many lessons out on the AMERICAN highways was to give L E Os on the side of the road Plenty of room and Slow Down as I approached the flashig lights. Been doing that No Matter WHAT I'm in or on. I've also participated in road construction. After some years in the high seat of an 18 wheeler what I've noticed is no particular area of AMERICA has a lock on idiot drivers. ANY Large metro area in AMERICA That's a given and a foregone conclusion. I also made SURE I was off the road Before last call for alcohol, I've also done ride alongs with L E Os and I've driven Ambulance. When you are Running lights and siren people can Really git STUPID! Believe the signs in Missouri state-move over or slow down for stopped emergency vehicles. RIDE SAFE.

Bicyclist around here drive me crazy the city has spent millions and millions of dollars building a Greenway for walkers and bikers yet they want to find the one lane curvy ass roads and bicycle around. They get pissed when cars come by like the cars not supposed to be on the road. They refuse to get in single formation so to not let you pass . . .just like the idiots going 70 in the passing lane on the interstate . .

The pool noodle thing has become a popular "safety hack" among bicyclists in the last few years...

"Why every cyclist needs a pool noodle"
https://qz.com/1620913/the-best-cycling-hack-is-a-pool-noodle

I'm honestly kind of torn. On the one hand, I don't mind bicyclists when they accept they're on bicycles and move to the side, make room for motorized vehicles to safely pass, etc. But then we get these gaggles of 'em riding 3 side by side blocking lanes and backing up traffic for miles, they make me have.... immoral thoughts as to how to get past them.

But then I remember I myself ride a vehicle many people would like to see removed from the roadways and many folks wouldn't give a rat's patootie if I were to get splattered on so I restrain myself...
