Been with them since 2016, have 5 bikes on my policy.  No claims other than 2 roadside/tow issues, both less than 20 miles from my house.

Fast forward to May, 2024.  Had a breakdown on a long bike trip.  NIghtmare in middle of nowhere Neveda.  Bottom line, had a $650 tow bill and 3 nights in a motel over Memorial Day weekend.  Filed for towing and trip interruption when I got home.  Agent cautioned me, said my rates would increase if I filed.  They paid all the towing charge (kudos to them), but won't pay the interruption because I have no bills and proof of payment to any shop for the repairs.  That's because there were no shops that would work on my 2000 Honda Valkyrie 1500, the part(s) needed weren't available and I didn't have the tools for me to do any work.  Stored the bike for 2 months in Panaca, NV.  Not even a dot on the map.  Went down last week and trailered it home.  Took 2 days to repair.  Will have to refile for interruption coverage....wish me luck.

Yesterday, I receive my renewal notice.  They're only showing 4 of my bikes on the renewal, but my rate has gone from $429 to $741, again, for one less bike.  To say I am outraged is a massive understatement!

So, what's the latest opinion on coverage?  I know Progressive is usually the lowest, and all my other insurance is with USAA (since 1973), and they don't insure bikes, just refer you to Progressive.  Son uses Allstate, but he bundles all his insurance with them to get good rate.  Geico?

I am with Progressive on my boat and motorcycle.   I recently dropped all my coverage except liability on the motorcycle.   Over 120,000 miles on it .  Probly do good to get $4,000 .    Get a large claim and its just cheaper to buy another Valkyrie

Sounds like my experience with progressive as well. Ditched them. I pay a little over $100/year. When I had two Valkyries it went up like $10. I’m with Allstate

have progressive for my 4 cycles as well, cheapest around, but no claim filed.  what I do know is since I also have my 5 vehicles with them (including kids),  that the ONLY time I used progressive on my newer truck when hit a deer, comprehensive claim,  the insurance adjuster I met at body shop said since comp claim no rate increase upon renewal.  WRONG!  All 5, not just the truck, went up upon renewal 13% across the board.  WTF!   A NO fault accident should NOT count against anyone.  They say NOT to swerve to avoid deer, but if I did not, woulda been an 8K claim vs. 3K claim just clipping the right front fender vs. head on collision.

good luck finding anyone who will be cheaper than progressive, so far I have not.  I own 3 hyundai's and although progressive insures hyundai's by raising my rates HUGE just on those 3 hyundais upon renewal (is BS as well that is another story),  I called State Farm and state farm does NOT insure hyundai's because of the nationwide theft ring on 2 of 3 of my hyundai vehicles both 2014's.   I called Allstate and they are higher as well vs. progressive.

Keep shopping around is all I can say.  Try Erie insurance?

Hagerty.

It is a collector car/motorcycle insurance provider.  I've been with them a number of years now on the Valkyrie, full coverage, and inexpensive.  Initially they did not want to cover the Valkyrie because it was too new.  But I typically have a half dozen older machines insured through them so they added it to the policy.  They are worth a try, especially if you have some older collector vehicles you can bundle it with.

I switched from Progressive to State Farm.

I later switched from State Farm to American Family but that was due strictly to insurance rep.

I even switched last renewal from one progressive agent to another progressive agent after I asked the one I had long time a question and he did not give me a decent reply back.   sometimes a good caring agent matters   He lost premium kickback on 4 cycles/4 autos sending me a crappy email back ONLY once and he deserved it.  He probably thought I would do nothing and keep with him, but NO way.

We switched to Progressive from GEICO for our car insurance and they were less than half the cost 2 years ago (3 cars).  When we switched the 3 motorcycles they were 20% less.  No tickets or claims in last 10 years.  I've been happy with their rates.  No experience with claims with Progressive.  Still have home insurance with USAA.

A lot matters state to state.... As for me, we're USAA on our cars, but Progressive on the bikes "backed" by USAA (Whatever that means).

Progressive did us right when Kali had her booboo in West Virginia few years back, gave me easily double the Blue Book of my Valk to fix it up and did NOT total it, so I've got no complaints...

Had to use 'em again not long after that when a buddy was borrowing our Silverwing and got rear ended by an "undocumented" and uninsured driver on the freeway.

They once again stepped in, gave us nearly double the value of the Silverwing (But did total it, but it was a legit total)...

I'm USAA on my truck (and all 4 wheelers for decades), and house .

USAA does not insure motorcycles and has always 'laid that business off' on Progressive (which I would never do bidness with) (so Geico for bikes).  High coverage all 4 wheel, liability only on bikes (essentially self insured, unless I get sued, and never sorry either).

I know they have some kind of long term relationship, but I don't think USAA 'backs up' Progressive on any motorcycle coverage.  Perhaps they would 'intercede' on any complaint or dispute with Progressive, I dunno.

hope u not mind me asking, but once you filed those 2 loss claims,  did progressive raise the rates say 20-30% or more upon next renewal?   That is what progressive did to me on a deer collision comprehensive claim on my truck upon next renewal.

It's really hard to tell... Kali shipped out to Army Boot camp a month after her wreck and was removed from the policy, so net my next renewal went way down since she was taken off...

And after the Silverwing got totaled, we for obvious reasons removed the Silverwing from the policy, so again the policy went down quite a bit.
